Lavoce Expands Into the High Frequencies at NAMM 2022

June 6 2022, 01:10
Lavoce Italiana, the professional loudspeaker transducer company used the 2022 NAMM Show to officially launch two Next Generation high frequency drivers with unique features, expanding even more the company's fast growing catalog. The DN14.30TK is Lavoce's new 1.4” exit neodymium compression driver, a refined and more compact driver with a titanium diaphragm. Also new is the BF10.10LA, the company's first entry into the compression tweeter category.

Exhibiting a smooth extended frequency response to 20kHz and low distortion, the new DN14.30TK compression driver has a 110W AES power rating, 3" edgewound copper-clad aluminum voice coil and 108dB sensitivity. Closely following the Next Generation HF design ethos of its successful bigger brother, DN14.300T, it employs the same phase plug, but in a slightly more compact product footprint (120mm diameter) with a hybrid titanium diaphragm with a polyimide surround.

Compared to a one-piece titanium diaphragm and surround, the hybrid titanium/polyimide diaphragm assembly used on DN14.30TK offers a lower resonant frequency (Fs) due to the softer surround material. This enhances the low frequency performance around the recommended crossover point at 1.2kHz, which can help simplify the crossover designs and improve the quality for vocal reproduction.

The new DN14.30TK also employs Lavoce's patented Integral Input Surface (IIS) phase plug technology, which incorporates a perfectly smooth, one-piece, input surface for the dome of the phase plug which reduces the risk of any misalignment issues in this critical high-pressure area. Together with its improved assembly topology, this technology ensures production batches are fully compliant to performance requirements and maintains consistency in the field.

Like all Lavoce Next Generation compression drivers, the new DN14.30TK has been designed and optimized by the company's R&D team in Potenza Picena, Italy, using their own proprietary FEA software applications. This software includes sub-models for simulating the HF motor, dome, phase plug and the interface with a horn, and then combines them into a system level fully coupled model which is presented in a customized graphical user interface (GUI). This significantly speeds up the development process and produces very accurate devices, which are not only acoustically impressive like with the DN14.30TK and DN14.300T compression drivers, but are also completely optimized for production efficiency and consistency.

"The DN14.30TK is another elegant Lavoce product which emphasizes our commitment to premium performance HF devices which compete at the highest level. The development resources our Italian R&D team have created are industry leading and our wholly owned production facility in China is first class, so watch this space for more exciting high frequency products to come," says Pierpaolo DeMinicis, Pro Audio Division Manager.

BF10.10LA Compression Tweeter
Including a compact integral horn, the new BF10.10LA is a ferrite magnet compression tweeter designed as a simple solution for projecting high frequency to a multi-way sound system design using one or multiple devices, or as the HF section for a professional bass guitar cabinet or combo. The BF10.10LA employs a one-piece aluminum diaphragm and surround with a 1” copper-clad aluminum voice coil on a Kapton former and offers a 20W AES power rating, 106dB sensitivity and a frequency range of 2500-18000Hz with a 5kHz recommended crossover point.

Like all Lavoce Next Generation high frequency devices, the BF10.10LA has been designed and optimized to offer low distortion and a linear frequency response, delivering a consistent and impressive performance every time.

"Lavoce is well-known for supplying premium HF and LF solutions to leading pro audio brands and of course the BF10.10LA offers another competitive solution in our range, but a lesser-known fact is that we are also one of the biggest suppliers of bass guitar speakers and this driver is also a convenient and robust solution for adding professional HF to a professional bass guitar cabinet or combo," adds Kevin Shove, International Sales Director.
