Voice Coil August 2024 Is Ready for You!

In this issue, Vance Dickason kicks off a series of outboard DSP processor reviews, starting with the Danville dspNexus. Next, Claus Futtrup writes about the Critically Damped Fourth-Order (CD4) bass reflex alignment. As scheduled, Mike Klasco writes about New Materials and Technologies for Voice Coils, and there's an updated directory of 2024 Voice Coil winders, converters, lead out wire, and more. On Test Bench, Vance Dickason assesses the new B&C Speakers DH450-8 1" compression driver and the Stereo Integrity M3 3.5" carbon midrange driver.

This Test Bench characterizes an ultra-compact (under 60mm diameter) compression driver, along with the B&C Speakers ME10v2 90°x60° coverage horn. The really cool feature of the DE350-8 is the patent-pending phase plug. Inside, the DE350 has a round symmetrical outside channel, and an inside channel with a patent-pending twist for overall improved frequency response. Weighing in at a mere 275 gram, it is an ideal candidate for the new generation of lighter, more compact line array loudspeakers.

In continuation of the recently updated D3004/602200 Illuminator dome tweeter, Scan-Speak is now releasing the similar updated ring radiator sibling R3004/602200 that replaces the R3004/602000 and R3004/602010 models. The compact size is one of the key elements of these Illuminator tweeters, which provide a high degree of flexibility within design options, and are fully comparable to the renowned full size Illuminator and Revelator tweeters.

Lavoce Italiana, the professional loudspeaker transducer company used the 2022 NAMM Show to officially launch two Next Generation high frequency drivers with unique features, expanding even more the company's fast growing catalog. The DN14.30TK is Lavoce's new 1.4” exit neodymium compression driver, a refined and more compact driver with a titanium diaphragm. Also new is the BF10.10LA, the company's first entry into the compression tweeter category.

Fulcrum Acoustic has released the AHC2 High Output Coaxial Horn, a bi-amplified 2-way, high sensitivity, arrayable coaxial horn design. The new AHC2 retains the compact enclosure, precise pattern control to below 400Hz, low frequency extension to below 80Hz and associated features of the original AH coaxial horn loudspeakers, while incorporating upgraded drivers capable of much higher output.

The October 2021 edition of Voice Coil discusses "The State of Loudspeaker Magnetics," with an annual overview of these critical industry components and materials for loudspeakers, complemented with an updated industry directory focused on Integrated Electronics. James Croft covers a patent awarded to Coastal Source for the variable waveguide speaker control, while Vance Dickason characterizes the powerful 15DS100 professional subwoofer from B&C Speakers, and Eighteen Sound's latest ND2T 1.4” neodymium compression driver. Sony introduced the Mobile ES car speaker and subwoofer range, including five new drivers, which the company believes will set a new standard for in-car entertainment. Developed with various technical updates, the Sony Mobile ES range includes four coaxial designs and one new subwoofer driver, all featuring newly optimized speaker diaphragm materials and ready to support High-Resolution Audio source material.
