United States Proposes ATSC 3.0 as ITU International Digital Broadcast Standard

The United States of America has proposed to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) adoption of the ATSC 3.0 digital broadcast standard for use by all countries in the world. The proposal is the first major step in the evaluation process for worldwide acceptance of the standard. The ITU will review the world’s first IP-based Broadcast System proposal to other regions, such as Europe, China, Japan, and Brazil, which have their own TV standards.

Parks Associates found that 28% of U.S. broadband households with a smart speaker use the voice assistant to control a smart home device, compared to only 12% that use it to control an entertainment device. Riot, the service of Rethink Technology Research a research and analyst company focusing on IoT, video and wireless, say that the revenues of Smart Hhome as a Service (SHaaS) will rise to $15.75 billion by 2023. The study is entitled “Smart Home as a Service – Awakened from Sleep by a Deep Voice - Forecast to 2023”. The analyst firm confirms Communications Services Providers (CSPs) will need to turn to consumer voice platforms to explore the full potential of the smart home market.
