Advanced Television Systems Committee Begins Review of ATSC 3.0 Audio System Proposals

On December 2014, the ATSC issued a Call for Proposals for a comprehensive audio system for the next generation ATSC 3.0 digital television standard. Dolby (with Atmos), DTS (with DTS:X) and a consortium comprising Technicolor, Fraunhofer and Qualcomm (jointly promoting MPEG-H Audio) have submitted their audio systems. Now, the ATSC has begun its technical review of the three detailed proposals.

DTS announced that selected models from Huawei, vivo, nubia and letv, which represent more than 20% Of chinese mobile phone market, will integrate its Headphone:X technology, offering immersive sound experiences with any set of headphones. Cadence Design Systems also announced that DTS Headphone:X has been optimized for its Tensilica HiFi Audio/Voice digital signal processor (DSP) family.
