DTS announced the integration of DTS Virtual:X technology in A/V receivers for the first time. Select Denon and Marantz A/V receivers are now able to receive a firmware update to offer immersive sound in home theaters without the need for height or rear speakers. DTS Virtual:X technology in an A/V receiver offers immersive audio - virtual surround and virtual height - from simple soundbars, or traditional stereo and surround configurations (5.1/7.1 channel).

DTS Play-Fi Speakers with Amazon Alexa Voice Service and Alexa Connected Speaker APIs Support Unveiled at IFA 2017

DTS, now a wholly owned subsidiary of Xperi, announced the launch of the first DTS Play-Fi-enabled wireless speakers with Amazon Alexa Voice Service (AVS) and Alexa Connected Speaker APIs support. The Phorus PS10 wireless speaker ($249 MSRP) will ship in late September/early October, followed by the Onkyo Smart Speaker P3 and Pioneer Elite Smart Speaker F4. Additionally, DTS Play-Fi users will be able to enjoy their “My Music” libraries via the Amazon Music app across their DTS Play-Fi wireless multi-room music systems, regardless of brand.

DTS Announces Virtual:X Technology to Deliver Virtual Immersive and Surround Sound

DTS has announced the integration of its Virtual:X immersive sound technology into a new series of soundbars that are set to hit the market this summer, followed by receivers and possibly TVs. The first release will be the Yamaha YAS-207 soundbar in early July 2017, with the DTS Virtual:X firmware update coming in August. DTS says its Virtual:X technology can be implemented to provide an immersive sound experience without the need for additional height and/or rear surround speakers.

Tessera Technologies and DTS are now combined under Tessera Holding Corporation and the shares of the combined company will continue to trade on the NASDAQ under Tessera’s ticker symbol TSRA. The Audio Engineering Society’s Audio Guidelines for Over the Top Television and Video Streaming (AGOTTVS) technical group was formed in early 2016 to study the many issues related to audio loudness variations in distributed video content. After four-and-a-half months of work by 50 members, the group has announced the publication of preliminary guidelines.
