This Test Bench characterizes the CD-11Nd compression driver and TD-194 1" horn from pro sound OEM, Acustica Beyma. The CD-11Nd has a diameter voice coil wound both inside and outside of a non-conduction Kapton-type former with aluminum wire. The diaphragm and surround are composed of a single piece of PM4, which is a proprietary high-tech polymer that, according to the company, has never before been used for audio. The company, which is now majority-owned by Jose Vicente Farinós, announced an expansion of its workforce with two key hires to improve production and the company's operations. Adrian Benlloch has been hired to the position of Director of Operations (COO), while Jose Torres is Beyma's new Production Manager.

Loudspeakers for Vented Enclosures: A Backward Approach for Speaker Selection (LoVE BASS)

In this article for Voice Coil, the authors explore the problem of designing vented enclosures, describing a backward concept they call LoVE BASS, which they found to save a substantial amount of engineering hours during the process of speaker box design. As opposed to taking a given driver and designing an enclosure, the authors define the system’s target performance in terms of physical volume, lower cut-off frequency, ripple and maximum achievable SPL, after which they look for candidate drivers that allow for such a design. The TPL75 is one of the Air Motion Transformers (AMT, aka Air Velocity Transformer) that Acustica Beyma has developed for pro sound applications. Part of the success of Beyma’s AMTs for pro sound comes from its proprietary X-Bow technology, which opens as much as possible the mechanical constraint in the diaphragm, allowing it to manage higher temperatures, increasing the limit of the power the diaphragm can handle. In this edition of Test Bench, Vance Dickason characterized a different high-frequency transducer: the TPL200/H, a horn-loaded pro sound AMT from the Valencia, Spain, company Acustica Beyma. The TPL200/H is one of the Air Motion Transformers (AMT, aka AVT Air Velocity Transformer) that Beyma has developed for pro sound applications and is a Kapton horn-loaded version of the highest power handling AMT in their AMT line, rated at 120 W AES (24 W program), with a sensitivity of 104 dB 1 W/1 m.
