GreenWaves Showcases World's First AI-Based Audio Solutions for the GAP9 Application Processor at CES 2024

December 19 2023, 07:10
GreenWaves Technologies will be at CES 2024 with an interesting showcase of AI for audio applications. The company's GAP9 advanced AI processor is in volume production, and GreenWaves will be able to show several solutions that are enabling market leading hearable products. Demonstrations include audio advanced source separation models, and active noise cancellation with neural network based acoustic scene detection, as well as immersive 3D sound.

The GreenWaves GAP9 hearable platform is exceptionally power efficient, and it offers best-in-class ultra low energy neural network performance for AI-based or AI-driven algorithms. This enables powering completely new audio applications in true wireless form-factors, including advanced features that have never been possible before.

One of GAP9’s core values is making best-in-class ANC not only available for all hearable manufacturers but also customizable to their liking, including in open ear TWS earbuds, a notoriously challenging form factor. The CES 2024 demonstrations will showcase a reference design from a GreenWaves' development partner that promises to dramatically shorten the time from product concept all the way through to manufacturing TWS and headphones with GAP9 inside.

But GAP9’s ability to add value to hearables products doesn’t stop there. As previously announced by audioXpress, AudioSourceRE, the developer of powerful AI sound separation algorithms, has partnered with GreenWaves to develop a vocal separation solution to run in real time on the ultra-low-power GAP9 processor. Making professional quality source separation available on a low cost, low energy MCU class processor is an industry first.

The solution that GreenWaves and AudioSourceRE will demonstrate can already be used for instant karaoke and instrument removal in low-cost, smart speakers, music players, and party boxes. But the technology has wide applicability from balancing levels of speech and background (music, noise), all the way to enhancing voice applications, user identity, and sound recognition. Naturally, applications also encompass sensors for smart cities, as well as in industrial, retail as well as live environments and soundscapes.

MyVoice AI, known for pioneering the world's smallest speaker verification engine, is collaborating with Greenwaves to showcase the potential of voice identity and authentication for both security and personalization. With MyVoice AI's NanoVoice TinyML speaker verification technology, users can effortlessly secure their devices and verify payments using the DNA of their voice. This ultra low-power, small footprint solution represents a significant leap in silicon-based secure enclaves, applicable to any microphone-equipped device, including TWS earbuds, headphones, AR products, VR glasses, or goggles.

On the immersive audio front, IDUN audio, developers of advanced embedded dynamic spatial audio solutions, has partnered with Greenwaves to showcase a full spatial audio experience featuring head tracking on a mWs power budget. Users can personalize their listening environment, selecting scenes and rooms embedded in the demo headphones. The versatile algorithm is compatible with various form factors, including TWS, headphones, and AR/VR products, and can play content from any Bluetooth-connected playback device.

Another application area powered by GAP9 in focus at CES 2024 will be augmented hearing. With a vision for superhuman hearing and crystal-clear communication, Danish company Augmented Hearing (literally) has integrated their AI Software with the GAP9 architecture. Their expertise in hearing and audio has led to significant advancements in critical communication, especially in environments with heavy background noise where unambiguous communication can mean the difference between life and death. Leveraging GreenWaves' GAP9 platform, Augmented Hearing aims to redefine the limits and deliver superior hearing enhancement in earbuds, particularly useful to ensure clear and effortless communication in challenging situations, such as noisy bars or restaurants.

In another partnership, GreenWaves and Algosonix have joined forces to deliver an unparalleled immersive sound experience across a variety of devices, such as headphones, soundbars, and TWS earbuds. Algosonix's software innovations are able to shape soundfields and recreate any listening environment to envelop listeners in a precise arrangement of sound sources that better matches human sound perception. This allows the listener to discern nuances and layers in music, providing a truly lifelike and immersive experience.

With these presentations at CES 2024, GreenWaves intends to showcase the significant progress that was achieved throughout 2023 and demonstrate how GAP9 is revolutionizing products in the consumer hearables and IoT markets.
