Røde Microphones announced a new supercardioid microphone to its portfolio of professional audio solutions. Disc Recording Equalization Demystified
This article explains the methods of cutting disc records, the characteristics of magnetic phono cartridges, and how their combined response determines the required playback equalization. The article is based on a paper the author presented at the May 1996 conference of the Association for Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC) in Kansas City, and was first published in the Fall 1996 issue of the ARSC Journal. Later, the article was featured as part of "The LP Is Back!" compilation book published in 1999 by The Audio Amateur company.

New Book on High-Quality Horn Loudspeaker Systems Now Available
The book “High-Quality Horn Loudspeaker Systems" by Bjørn Kolbrek and Thomas Dunker is being released this month on different channels and the official launch took place at the 147th AES Convention in New York. The massive 1070-page hardcover book caused quite an impression among AES members and the visitors who attended the two signing events on Wednesday and Friday. Several audioXpress and Voice Coil authors were very impressed with the book and took copies for review.

Gaming Headsets Lead the Way as Accessories Break the 3$ Billion Barrier
The gaming accessories market continues its ascent, with 76 million units shipped worldwide in 2018, according to a new industry report from Futuresource Consulting. That’s an increase of 22% on 2017, generating a retail value of US$3.1 billion from a combination of headsets, speakers, keyboards and mice. Last year’s headset growth won’t be repeated this year, with Futuresource forecasts pointing to a minor decline in volumes for 2019 due to cyclical hardware trends for games consoles.

Austrian Audio OC818 Variable Polar Pattern Microphone at AES 2019
Following the company's first public presentation at Prolight+Sound in Frankfurt, Germany, in April 2019, Austrian Audio's first product, the OC818 large diaphragm microphone, was displayed for the first time at the AES NY show courtesy of Cranborne Audio. Sonion Combines Voice Pick Up Bone Sensor With Qualcomm Bluetooth SoC to Improve Speech Intelligibility
Sonion, the manufacturer of components and solutions for hearing aids and in-ear headphones, announced that it is now a member of the Qualcomm Extension Program and will offer the Sonion Voice Pick Up Bone Sensor on the Qualcomm Ultra-Low Power QCC5100 Bluetooth SoC series in Q1 2020. The combination will allow other audio manufacturers to implement reliable voice quality and voice recognition applications that are not hindered by surrounding noise.

China: 90% of Users Love Their Smart Speakers - 88% in the UK
The exploding popularity of smart speakers in China is confirmed by findings from the latest Strategy Analytics consumer survey. The report, 2019 Smart Speaker User Survey – China Results, found that 63% of people who do not currently use a smart speaker plan to buy one within the next year. Another 22% say they will purchase a smart speaker later on, suggesting that smart speakers overall should reach at least another 85% of the population.
