Test Bench: Celestion FTX0820 8-inch Coaxial Woofer/Compression Driver

This month, the driver to be characterized is the FTX0820, a new coax from Celestion. The OEM-only FTX range covers 12” (305 mm), 8” (200 mm), and 6.5” (165 mm) chassis diameters, and features fully combined low-frequency and high-frequency components that are powered by a Common Magnet Motor Assembly (where the same magnet is used for both the low-frequency and high-frequency elements). This enables the voice coils (and hence the acoustic centers of the two drivers) to be brought closer together, delivering tight signal coherence and time alignment. Following a very successful InfoComm 2016 with multiple product introductions and packed demo sessions, Danley Sound Labs is now shipping its new Go-2, an extremely affordable and compact loudspeaker for small-scale applications. The concept was originally introduced at InfoComm 2015 and leverages Tom Danley’s patented Synergy Horn technology in clever ways, demanding extensive development and testing. Another recent announcement from Danley was the return of the TH-50 subwoofer, introduced originally in 2007, now again in production.

A New Brand Identity for the Relaunch of Ciare

Following the acquisition by Italian driver manufacturer 18 Sound, announced in November 2015, the new Ciare brand identity has been presented at the Prolight+Sound 2016 show, in preparation for the company’s relaunch. The Senigallia, Italy brand already shared the booth with 18 Sound at the Frankfurt show and introduced three new drivers, including an improved coaxial design, a new 1” exit high-frequency driver and a midrange 6.5” driver.

As promised, at the 2015 Prolight+Sound show, in Frankfurt, Beyma introduced its new WR low frequency 10WR300, 12WR400 and 15WR400 drivers for small and medium sized vented cabinets. Beyma also introduced the new 8CX300Fe 8” coaxial driver designed for full range applications and previewed upgraded versions of the 15P1000FeV2, 12P80NdV2 and 8P300Fe/N low frequency transducers.
