ALMA International Announces Speaker Builders Workshop for AISE2019

As announced during the latest ALMA International Symposium & Expo 2018 (AISE), the Association of Loudspeaker Manufacturing and Acoustics (ALMA) International is moving its annual event to InfoComm in 2019, scheduled for 9-10 June in Orlando, Florida. ALMA is now pleased to announce a key education track for the upcoming AISE2019 (ALMA International Symposium & Expo) focusing on speaker building. More education initiatives and the full program of conferences, panels and tutorials, will be confirmed soon.

A reinforced dose of everything that makes Voice Coil the Loudspeaker Industry must-read, the August 2018 edition features an updated directory on Voice Coil manufacturers, while James Croft reviews two patents directly inspired by the work of Dr. Oskar Heil on an Air Motion Transformer (AMT) woofer system. Finally, Vance Dickason characterizes three drivers in Test Bench, including the new Eminence Alpha-5-8 5” midbass driver; the TPL75, a compact pro sound AMT from Acustica Beyma; and a new pro sound compression driver from B&C Speakers.

Among the several products introduced at this year’s NAMM Show, Eminence confirmed a series of new drivers already scheduled for 2018. From small format pro audio devices to a 15” neodymium guitar speaker, Eminence has expanded its lineup of audio solutions for a wide array of applications. New Eminence drivers for 2018 include the Alpha 2-8, and Alpha 5-8 for compact pro audio applications, the APT30 horn loaded tweeter, SD28 soft-dome tweeter, and F151M-8 ring radiator compression driver.

For this Test Bench, Vance Dickason characterizes an Eminence N151M-8 1” throat ring radiator compression driver coupled with the Eminence STI1 90° × 40° constant directivity horn. The N151M-8 includes a mylar diaphragm driven by a 1.5” voice coil wound on a polyimide former and cast aluminum body, neodymium ring magnet motor, and field-replaceable diaphragm. A leading supplier of loudspeakers and high frequency devices since 1966, Eminence announced the appointment of Courtney F. Morgan, Ph.D. as its new Research and Innovation Leader. Morgan has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Georgia and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Emory University in Atlanta. His post doctoral research focused on nuclear magnetic resonance at the University of California Santa Cruz.

Now available for download, Voice Coil June 2017 features a report on new earphone and headphone technology developments, compiled by Mike Klasco (Menlo Scientific); a directory of manufacturers; and a summary of recommended related trade shows. James Croft reviews a patent for a passive radiator with dynamically adjustable resonant frequency, while Vance Dickason tests Eminence’s new 1” compression driver and SEAS’ 6.5” “King Coax.”

In this Test Bench, Voice Coil characterizes two high-end compression drivers and horns from Eminence, the N314T-8 with the H14EA horn, and the N320T-8 with the H2EA horn. Both these neodymium motor compression drivers from Eminence share pretty much the same feature set. The main difference is the N314T-8 is configured for a 1.4” throat, and the N320T-8 is configured for a 2” diameter throat. This article was originally published in audioXpress, March 2016.

This Test Bench focuses on a new and extremely clever variable Bl 12″ diameter guitar speaker from Eminence — the 12″ Maverick, from the Eminence Patriot series, which uses their new FDM technology (Flux Density Modulation) to allow some really desirable distortion characteristics that have become the signature of blues and rock guitar playing. Eminence sent a 6.5″ driver from their lightweight Professional Neodymium Series, the Alphalite 6A, which, along with the Kappalite and Deltalite series, makes up the neo woofer/midrange offering from Eminence.
