Digital Audio Labs Expands Brands and Solutions with Acquisition of LaChapell Audio

Digital Audio Labs, based in Chanhassen, Minnesota, confirmed the acquisition of LaChapell Audio, a manufacturer of tube microphone preamps and 500 series studio outboard equipment. Digital Audio Labs currently manufactures solutions for musicians and the installation market with its Livemix and PowerShape brands, and develops OEM audio solutions for a number of partners. With the acquisition of LaChapell Audio, the company returns to its origins in the studio market.

New Nagra HD Preamp Previewed at High End Munich 2017

During the 2017 High End show in Munich, Audio Technology Switzerland announced it is developing its most ambitious Nagra Audio preamplifier ever. The Swiss company says the new preamplifier, built around the existing HD DAC and HD AMP will complement the existing Nagra HD range, and will be called simply the HD Preamp. The concept will be available for demonstration this summer and is scheduled for release in the fall 2017.

Zanden continues to surprise with beautiful products and, at CES 2017, the company introduced its new 3000mk2 preamplifier, part of its Classic series, replacing the input and output transformers of the original unit, and featuring a completely redesigned tube rectified power supply, among several other improvements.

McIntosh Announces New Blu-Ray Player, Turntable Preamplifier and High-Res Digital Preamp

McIntosh has announced details of three new products from its 2016 global distributor conference. The trio includes a new Blu-Ray player ($5,500), turntable amplifier ($2,000) and digital preamplifier ($7,000). The new C2600 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier, the MP100 Phono Preamplifier and the MVP901 Audio Video Player, all combine the best-in-class audio performance of the legendary McIntosh Reference System with the latest in technological development. Availability (in the US) is expected in August 2016.

Following its first presentation at the CES 2016 in Las Vegas, at the High End 2016 show In Munich Nagra Audio Technology Switzerland introduced the new Classic INT, a new integrated version of Nagra’s Classic Amp, now in production. The Munich presentations also included the Nagra HD Amp Statement power amplifier, and a preview of an expanded Classic line of components, including a Classic Tube Preamp and the new Nagra Classic DAC USB converter with DSD 2X and DXD support.

Stuart Yaniger wrote a great article for audioXpress in February 2009, The ImPasse Preamplifier, describing a tube preamp to drive a pair of Nelson Pass’ First Watt F4’s (or other low-to-unity-gain power amplifiers) in balanced mono. Yaniger’s preamp is truly an elegant design with very, very low distortion, using a 6SN7 to drive a 6922 in balanced mode. There are LED’s, NE2H neon lamps and depletion MOSFETs in the design.

McIntosh Laboratory, has announced three new preamplifiers – the C1100, C52 and C47 – all made at the company's factory in Binghamton NY, following the brand’s signature design. The C1100 features a separate controller and tube preamplifier, and the C52 and C47, offer phono preamps and built-in DACs, featuring PCM, DSD256, and DXD up to 384kHz.
