Fraunhofer IIS Licenses MPEG-H Audio Patents to Samsung

Fraunhofer IIS announced the licensing of its MPEG-H Audio patents to Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., allowing Samsung to manufacture products that feature MPEG-H Audio, including TVs and set-top-boxes. As the major contributor to the MPEG-H 3D Audio standard, Fraunhofer IIS is also leading the licensing efforts to enable the broadcast, mobile, media and streaming services and consumer electronics industries to quickly bring MPEG-H Audio to market.

Sonos Settles Another Patent Infringement Case and Agrees on Multi-Year Licensing Deal with Lenbrook

Sonos and Lenbrook Industries reached a settlement in Sonos’ patent infringement lawsuit against Lenbrook regarding the Bluesound wireless audio systems. Undisclosed terms include a multi-year licensing deal associated with all BluOS enabled solutions worldwide. This announcement comes after a patent infringement deal was also settled with Sound United regarding the Denon HEOS solutions. Sonos continues to fight in court against Google to protect its wireless audio patents.

PCB Piezotronics, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of MTS Systems Corporation, was awarded a patent for a universal phantom powered preamplifier. PCB engineers Mark Nowak and Drew Karkau are inventors of the patent for Model 426A14, describing a phantom powered preamp for use with a microphone cartridge having a unique mechanical interface, which allows the phantom powered preamp to function with both 1/4" and 1/2" microphone cartridges.
