Patent Review: Inverse Horn Loudspeakers

This article reviews a patent originally granted to inventors Philip R. Clements; (Tempe, AZ), Boaz Shalev; (Needham, MA), and James Joseph Croft, III; (Bellevue, WA), which has now expired. The patent describes a low-frequency transducer system with a multi-compression chamber, where an inverse horn structure is employed in combination with a resonance-distortion filter chamber. This was the third patent granted on Atlantic Technology’s low frequency system known by the trademark name H-PAS (High Pressure Acceleration System). The NSD1095N is a 1" throat compression driver with a compact footprint for “high quality” sound applications in professional audio, from studio monitors or stage monitors to high-power sound reinforcement cabinets. It uses a field replaceable True Piston Motion (TPM) TiN coated titanium diaphragm, extending the frequency response by 25% and incorporates a proprietary phase plug architecture that has been designed to give a smooth coherent wave front at the horn entrance across the whole working frequency range.

The high-end MW19TX-8 has a substantial feature set with similar features as the rest of Satori series with TPCD cones, impressing immediately by its distinctive cosmetics and subjective performance, which this characterization illustrates.

Celestion Introduces Updated Horn Design App HornWizard 2.0

Celestion announced the launch of HornWizard 2.0, the updated and enhanced version of the desktop and mobile application which is a portal to the company’s free powerful horn design software. The updates bring enhanced functionality and now allow users to design horns for Celestion’s 1.4" and 2" exit compression drivers, including the Axi2050, and adds horn length as a primary parameter. It also introduces the possibility to refine and compare multiple up to 3 designs, as well as design horns with Circular or Elliptical mouths.
