Test Bench: Precision Devices PD-CD1N Compression Driver

In this month's Test Bench, Vance Dickason examines a new 1" PEEK diaphragm compression driver from Precision Devices, the PD.CD1N. This is a unique design in Precision Devices' UL portfolio, using a PEEK diaphragm/surround material, which also incorporates a three-slot optimized phase plug design and a 44 mm (1.73”) diameter voice coil wound with copper-clad aluminum wire on a Kapton former. Test Bench: Precision Devices PD.CD2N 1.4” Titanium Diaphragm Compression Driver

In this edition of Test Bench, I characterized a 1.4” titanium diaphragm compression driver from Precision Devices. The new driver from this prestigious UK Pro Sound OEM manufacturer is part of a seven model lineup of high-performance neodymium compression drivers. The PD.CD2N has a 50.8 mm (2”) throat diameter, with a radial neodymium magnet motor structure, an aluminum three-slot phase plug, and nominal 105 W (AES) rated power handling. Lavoce Italiana continues to expand its OEM catalog of professional audio driver solutions, while expanding its distribution scope in tandem with its steady pace of product introductions. For Prolight+Sound 2018 (Frankfurt, April 10-13), Lavoce has several new products scheduled to be unveiled. For this month’s Test Bench article, I examined the 745NEOBe, a pro sound 1.4” beryllium compression driver from Radian Audio Engineering. Radian Audio was founded in 1988 by its president, Dr. Richard Kontrimas, however, Kontrimas has since retired and the company is under new ownership, based in Orange, CA. Peerless by Tymphany DFM-2535R00-08 Compression Driver

The DFM-2535R00-08 compression driver I examined this month came from Tymphany. This is the first compression driver in the company’s new three model compression driver line from Peerless by Tymphany. The DFM-2535R00-08 has a 1” throat exit diameter and a 1.4” titanium diaphragm with a polyimide surround.
