In 2023, audioXpress had the chance to review the "low cost and feature packed" WiiM Pro music streamer and was positively impressed. Never one to sit on their hands, this year the folks at Linkplay have gone one step further with an integrated power amplifier. Expanding its series of best-selling audio streamers, the WiiM Amp is a still-affordable design that combines a TI 3255 Class-D audio amplifier and ESS Sabre premium 32-bit DAC and simplifies the whole audio system setup.

Orchard Audio Upgrades Starkrimson Ultra Stereo Amps with an Active RCA Input Option

Orchard Audio's 500W Starkrimson Ultra stereo amplifiers received a big upgrade. Revision 2.5 builds upon revision 2.0 by adding a built-in active RCA-to-XLR converter. This means the amplifiers can now be used with both single-ended (RCA) and balanced (XLR) sources. With this upgrade even when using the single-ended source the signal to the amplifier is fully balanced. An active RCA to XLR converter is also available from Orchard as a separate product.

"Designing a preamp is probably the most challenging engineering task in the audio chain, and many designers have invested a lot of time and effort in it," wrote Erno Borbely in this original 1985 article for the Audio Amateur. "My reason for designing this preamp is quite simple: I wanted to have a top-quality preamp without paying megabucks for a Levinson or Accuphase unit. WiiM Announces WiiM Amp Integrated Streaming Amplifier and Multiroom Audio Streamer

From audio streamers, WiiM has now evolved to a complete integrated amplifier design that is able to power any classic passive speakers, and effortlessly stream any source wirelessly to the whole home. The new WiiM Amp merges a streamer with a TI 3255 Class-D audio amplifier and ESS Sabre premium 32-bit DAC.
