DTS Play-Fi Speakers with Amazon Alexa Voice Service and Alexa Connected Speaker APIs Support Unveiled at IFA 2017

DTS, now a wholly owned subsidiary of Xperi, announced the launch of the first DTS Play-Fi-enabled wireless speakers with Amazon Alexa Voice Service (AVS) and Alexa Connected Speaker APIs support. The Phorus PS10 wireless speaker ($249 MSRP) will ship in late September/early October, followed by the Onkyo Smart Speaker P3 and Pioneer Elite Smart Speaker F4. Additionally, DTS Play-Fi users will be able to enjoy their “My Music” libraries via the Amazon Music app across their DTS Play-Fi wireless multi-room music systems, regardless of brand.

Onkyo and Pioneer Electronics Announce Firmware Updates Activating DTS Play-Fi

Onkyo and Pioneer Corporation (USA) have announced firmware updates to activate DTS Play-Fi wireless multi-room audio. Products supported include the Onkyo SBT-A500 Network Surround Soundbar System and Onkyo NCP-302 Wireless Network Speaker, as well as Pioneer's MRX-3 Wireless Speaker and FS-EB70 Elite Network Soundbar System. An update for other selected 2017-model Pioneer/Elite products, as well as 2016-model components is due end of September 2017.

Japanese Label UNAMAS Chooses MQA Format to Showcase Hi-Res Recordings

UNAMAS, the Japanese hi-res music label run by award-winning recording engineer, Mick Sawaguchi, has selected ten albums from their catalogue for encoding in MQA. The recordings, ranging from Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” performed by the Unamas String Quintet, to Hiroshi Fukamizu’s “Everything for Drums”, will be available from July 15 on music download service, e-onkyo music, priced at ¥3.000 ($29 / £19) each.

Following the recent announcement by Meridian Audio of a firmware update enabling MQA playback in its own range of products, Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) is now also playable directly on the Pioneer XDP-100R and Onkyo DP-X1 portable devices. MQA-encoded music content is finally available for first adopters to download and hear on their own devices.
