Dirac Research Achieves Major Breakthrough In 3D Audio With Dynamic HRTF Technology for AR/VR Applications

At CES 2017, Dirac will introduce the world to its Dynamic 3D Audio solution featuring patent-pending Dynamic HRTFs (head-related transfer functions) that crack the code of the industry’s foremost challenges. The Swedish company, one of the world’s leading digital audio processing and sound enhancement specialists, says its Dynamic 3D Audio platform removes a major barrier to a truly convincing immersive AR/VR experience.

Google, the company that makes a business out of anything that’s Open Source, announced its new Omnitone project, a platform that they say “brings spatial audio to the web in order to provide more immersive VR experiences, using only the Web Audio API.” The platform uses all the known spatial audio, ambisonics and binaural techniques, including several existing open source efforts, now released on a set of integrated tools that enable exploring immersive audio or spatial audio directly on a web browser.

Experiencing Binaural Listening – recreating a 3D soundspace through headphones, which is an ever-expanding aspect of present-day audio – will be an integral component of the 140th AES Convention, coming to the Palais des Congrès in Paris June 4 to 7. If it’s about Binaural, it’s at AES!

The Audio Engineering Society announced the recent publication of the AES69-2015 standard, which provides an important framework for the growing binaural and 3D personal audio industries. The standard, which describes the format and exchange of spatial acoustics files, is the product of the AES Standards Committee.
