Test Bench: Wavecor’s New WF211PA01 8.25" PA Woofer

The driver characterized in this Test Bench is a new 8.25" paper cone woofer, which is only the second pro audio design from the Wavecor, renowned for its high-end home hi-fi drivers. The company decided to expand its catalog with new OEM pro audio woofers, and the WF211PA01 is basically a smaller version of the WF259PA01 10" woofer explicated in the February 2024 issue of Voice Coil. This article offers a detailed characterization of Wavecor's latest SW259WA01 High Xmax Subwoofer. This new 10.25” subwoofer has a generous feature set that includes a proprietary six-spoke cast-aluminum frame that is substantial enough to support the heavy ferrite motor assembly and incorporates 36 vents below the spider mounting shelf. Other features include a very stiff and thick flat profile aluminum cone, an ingenious motor system with enhanced cooling, and a 2" four-layer voice coil wound. The new transducers comprise the WF275BD01 (4 ohm) and WF275BD02 (8 ohm) 10" mid/woofers in die cast frame, the TW022WA07/09 and TW022WA08/10 high-end tweeters, and the FR070WA05 70 mm aluminum-cone full-range driver with extended bass response.
