British audio brand Q Acoustics announced the Q Active 200 bookshelf speakers, its first active design, soon to be complemented with the Q Active 400 tower speakers. The Q Active series are the result of the company’s 14-year heritage and expertise in speaker design, in an effort to offer the ultimate combination of convenience, style, sound-quality, and value for money. An interesting research was unveiled last week by Valve, an entertainment software and gaming technology company founded in 1996 and based in Bellevue, WA. In 2016, Valve launched SteamVR, a platform for distribution of virtual reality (VR) products, which lead the company to develop its own VR headset - the Valve Index. In the development process leading to the company's new VR headset, Valve has made significant progress not only in the display, lens, and field of view aspect of VR goggles, but also on the aural side. Emily Ridgway, audio researcher at Valve Software, describes the company's take on what they call "off-ear headphones" or "ear-speakers."

Currently running a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, their first product combines a portable speaker with LED lighting and its called Oupio M. The design and concept looks great, and the team carefully researched the best possible options, including choice of materials and speaker design, opting for a combination of Balance Mode Radiator drivers from Tectonic Audio Labs.
