Genelec Launches 8430 IP Network AES67 Compatible SAM Studio Monitor

Genelec is announcing “A Giant Step in Audio over IP” at the ISE 2016 show in Amsterdam. Effectively, the new 8430 IP Network Compatible SAM Studio Monitor is the first commercially available “IP speaker” from the famous Finish specialist, and the result of several years of investment in this concept. The 8430 is also the first AES67 connected speaker in the world.

ISE is now larger than InfoComm and CEDIA, the two associations behind this European show, and the 2016 edition, expanded to four days, will feature an expanded exhibition, keynotes, conferences and features for the AV and audio industry. A group of broadcast equipment and solution suppliers has come together to ensure an easier transition to IP by supporting VSF TR-03/-04, SMPTE 2022-6 and AES67 standards. The newly formed Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS), was born with support from Grass Valley (Belden), Imagine Communications, Lawo and Snell Advanced Media and they already agreed on the audio part, with AES67.

A maintenance revision to AES67-2013 – the AES standard for high-performance streaming audio-over-IP interoperability – has been issued. The revision, called AES67-2015, clarifies some of the interoperability requirements, based on general implementation and “plugfest” experience.
