Resonado Labs announced that, for the first time ever, its technology is now available directly to the public. Previously, Resonado's high-performance racetrack drivers, featuring the proprietary Res-Core architecture, were exclusively offered to companies through licensed manufacturers. Meeting requests from speaker builders and developers, Resonado partnered with Parts Express to make the NW7 Gen 1 racetrack woofer directly available to the market.
The partnership with Parts Express enables access to Resonado's NW7 Gen 1 platform available for purchase on the site as the Dayton Audio RC180-55 2" x 7" Res-Core Neodymium Woofer 4 Ohm. This enables public access to Resonado's unique technology without quantity requirements, enabling any speaker builder or speaker designer who wishes to experiment and freely integrate these unique drivers into any audio build.
Res-Core technology is a proprietary speaker driver architecture that enables great improvements in racetrack driver form factors. Resonado introduced this technology to enable the development of audio products with improved performance in high aspect form factors, such as slim speakers and soundbars. The Res-Core Gen 1 driver builds upon the original Res-Core Gen 0, also known as Flat Core Speaker (FCS) technology. Res-Core Gen 0 was first unveiled at CES 2020 with the Neo Mid 5 driver platform. It was later commercialized with Airstream and featured in a Hyundai concept car showcased at the 2021 Open Innovation Lounge in Seoul.
Res-Core Gen 1 introduces several proprietary innovations on top of Resonado's foundational dual bar magnets and planar voice coil innovative topology. These include a single unified spider, a dual-sided aluminum bobbin, a surround with an undulating geometry, and a quad gap motor. The spider enhances motor stability while reducing costs, and the dual-aluminum bobbin improves rigidity for added stability. The unique surround geometry ensures a smoother frequency response, and the quad gap motor incorporates a split gap for improved linear excursion.
"The Gen 1 NW7 platform represents a large milestone in Resonado’s technology that the team is really proud of. Component innovations, like those in the bobbin or our patent pending split gap, pushed our transducer team to deliver unprecedented performance in a high aspect ratio form factor for a consumer audience," said Peter Moeckel, co-founder at Resonado.
The Neo Woofer 7 (NW7) is a Resonado driver platform designed and engineered with Res-Core Gen 1 architecture. This platform offers a high-power long-throw woofer with a 3:1 aspect ratio and a length of 7 inches along the long axis. It features Gen 1's dual neodymium bar magnets, a double-sided aluminum bobbin with a planar copper voice coil, a proprietary split gap design, and a center-balanced suspension system. The driver is designed to achieve a standard-setting flat frequency response below 50Hz through ultra-high excursion, maintaining a flat response beyond 2kHz on the high end. It has a maximum power handling rating of 70 Watts, 79.6 dB @2.83V/1m sensitivity, and a ±4.7mm x-max excursion capability.
The NW7/Dayton Audio RC180-55 driver stands out as a purpose-built solution for compact enclosures. The driver takes well to DSP tuning, enabling builders to maximize sound performance within a limited space. It can be paired with Dayton KAB series DSP Amplifier boards, for example, for projects encompassing soundbars, Bluetooth speakers, and smart speakers. In scenarios where space is at a premium, such as home theater or car subwoofer applications, multiple units can be utilized to deliver impressive audio while maintaining a small footprint. Its exceptional dispersion characteristics and minimal distortion also make it an ideal candidate for high-fidelity endeavors where the form factor allows for unparalleled center-to-center spacing.
Resonado Labs, established in 2017, is an audio technology company based in Chicago. The company's groundbreaking innovation, Res-Core, introduced high-performance racetrack loudspeakers, a unique category designed for modern audio products. Resonado specializes in developing designer drivers for various brands and manufacturers, incorporating Res-Core motors for superior performance. Additionally, the company leverages its expertise to engineer advanced tactical communication systems for entities like the United States Air Force and Special Forces. Resonado is already working in introduce its Res-Core Gen 2 technology to the market.
