Realtek Announces New 5th Generation Ameba E Series Solutions

October 27 2022, 00:45
Redefining smart connectivity, Realtek launched its new 5th generation Ameba E series solutions that allow smart products to have the ability to perceive, interact, and determine actions to take. The new SoCs and modules support powerful edge computing, allowing home appliances to be converted into multifunctional smart systems, according to various time or scene settings. Apart from introducing a boost in computation and DSP, the new Ameba E series supports Bluetooth LE Audio, Wi-Fi 6 and Matter.

The Ameba E series chips from Realtek Semiconductor Corporation include Ameba Lite (RTL8720E), Ameba Lite Plus (RTL8726E), and Ameba Smart (RTL8730E), with support for the latest technologies, including smart voice, dual core, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and Matter, allowing for an easy and effective upgrade to smart home systems, including voice interfaces.

According to the Taiwan-based company, the Ameba E series introduces new DSP capabilities to support advanced AI algorithms that are able to parse commands directly to implement Voice Activity Detection (VAD), Keyword Spotting (KWS), Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), Automatic Echo Cancellation (AEC), and Automatic Gain Control (AGC). Support for dual-band Bluetooth and the latest Auracast broadcast audio were also added.

The audio specifications for the new chips also add support for the latest technologies such as Voiceprint Identification, Voice-Tracking, Beamforming, etc., to meet varying developer’s needs. All Ameba E devices are suitable for wireless development in home theater and portable products, given that they offer low latency, low power, and multiroom technologies. Using Wi-Fi network transmission, the chips can help designers free speakers from cable restrictions, and also provide a high-quality experience in video and audio synchronization.

Crucial for smart home product development, the new Ameba E series supports Wi-Fi 6 and Matter, paving the way for improved connectivity and interoperability. The support of the latest Wi-Fi 6 and Matter specifications also helps obtain higher coverage, less interference, and better connection performance. More importantly, projects based on Ameba E series will be able to connect across more platforms, a key requirement for future smart developments.

According to Realtek the dual core design of the Ameba E series makes developments easier to maintain, allowing for security management and function to be separated. Extremely secure encryption is also provided.

"Realtek’s new 5th generation Ameba E series solutions can help further develop smart homes, advance the evolutionary timeline of the smart era, expand customer R&D applications, and create win-win goals for both developers and users," the company states.
