The OCA Alliance, the trade association supporting the AES70 standard for Open Control Architecture, is to host a unique event at Integrated Systems Europe 2025. In partnership with the Audio Product Development Alliance (ADPA) – an association dedicated to improving the knowledge and skills of professionals involved in the development of audio products, from concept to delivery – the OCA Alliance is holding a Product Development meet-up on their stand 7-E260 at 2pm on Wednesday February 5, 2025.
Interested parties are invited to learn more about how the incorporation of open standards such as AES70 into their products can help get their products to market faster and appeal to a wider audience. It’s also an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow professionals and exchange ideas and insights. To enroll for this forward-thinking event, please register your interest here by January 10th 2025.
The announcement follows the recent publication of the latest revision of the OCA standard, AES70-2024, which introduces several valuable additions. Along with new classes, the update features new methods, a new specification for using the OCP.1 protocol, and several documentation updates.
Fully backwards compatible with existing implementations, AES70-2024 continues to expand the technical foundations of the growing and evolving OCA ecosystem. Summaries and overviews of the most recent additions to the standard can be found on the OCA Alliance website: https://ocaalliance.com/latest-updates.
“AES70 is very much a living and evolving standard, and we are grateful to the developers and contributors who continue to support and expand it,” says Ethan Wetzell, Marketing Chair for the OCA Alliance. “As media networks expand in relevance and complexity, the ability of AES70 to grow in parallel to offer new components and solutions enhances the value for developers in combining standards and technologies to create holistic solutions. We are delighted to be partnering with the ADPA at ISE 2025 to share these latest developments and demonstrate to manufacturers how AES70 can enhance their product offerings.”
AES70 is a control and monitoring standards suite for professional audio and AV media network devices. AES70 provides for powerful, high speed, low cost, robust device control and monitoring for networks at any scale, from one device and a single controller to networks with almost any number of devices and multiple controllers.
AES70 is a license-free public standard with no proprietary content. It may be used freely at no cost. Using it does not require AES70 or OCA Alliance membership. For modest one-time fees, anyone can download the AES70 standards documents from the AES.
AES70 is fully protective of proprietary product elements. AES70 exposes whatever control and monitoring functions a device manufacturer wants to expose, and nothing more. A device can offer a rich AES70 interface for network control of many advanced functions, or it can expose a simple interface with only a few parameters - even just one parameter, such as power on-off.
AES70 itself is not a media transport protocol, but it can be used to manage virtually any media transport scheme - AES67, Dante, MILAN, etc. AES70 functions are defined to control creation and deletion of media streams and connections, and to monitor the state of all media stream operations.
AES70 protocols usually operate over standard wired and wireless Ethernets, but may be configured to use almost any kind of connection. No special communication equipment is needed. AES70 is an efficient design, with low processing and memory overhead, and low network bandwidth utilization. AES70's reliability is sufficient for critical applications, including life-safety applications.
AES70 is the standard upon which the Open Control Architecture ecosystem of devices, software, development tools, and technical resources is based. This includes development kits, both free and commercially licensed.

The OCA Alliance is a non-profit trade association formed to promote the AES70 standard and Open Control Architecture (OCA) ecosystem, as a control solution for professional media networking applications. The OCA Alliance’s purpose is to actively promote the development and adoption of the OCA ecosystem of hardware, software, and developer tools that support the AES70 standard. Today, the Alliance provides AES70 education, training, and promotion, while developing future versions of AES70 and adding new elements to the OCA ecosystem.
