Klipsch Unveils T5 II True Wireless ANC Earphones with Bragi OS and Dirac Sound Optimization

January 15 2021, 02:10
The results of an extended collaboration between Klipsch, Dirac and Bragi were finally unveiled at CES 2021. The famous consumer audio brand (a VOXX International company), teamed up with Dirac's digital audio processing experts, and the pioneers in hearables and creators of the Bragi Software Suite with embedded AI, to create the new Klipsch T5 II True Wireless ANC Earphones, which will be launched later in 2021.

With this collaboration, the Klipsch engineering team created one of the most ambitious true wireless developments so far, offering a platform that will evolve over time. The new Klipsch T5 II True Wireless ANC earbuds run Bragi OS, the unique modular software suite from the German company, allowing features like adjustment to the user's needs and usage profile, and full personalization with a user experience powered by artificial intelligence. This includes exploring the embedded sensors for user-defined gesture controls, like nodding to accept a call.

For now, Klipsch just details that the built-in Bragi operating system with embedded AI allows for Bragi Moves hands-free, advanced gesture-controlled experiences, and they promise to enable new functionality over the life of the product.

But the Klipsch T5 II True Wireless ANC earbuds are also appealing to users focused on sound quality by combining Dirac processing and hybrid active noise canceling technology. The Klipsch T5 engineering team engaged early with Dirac to make sure the Klipsch T5II design would be fully optimized and offer a clearer and more balanced sound performance. The Klipsch advanced acoustic engineering and industrial design team engineered the T5 II Series earphones to be "the best sounding most comfortable earphones on Earth and the embodiment of legendary Klipsch sound," they stated at CES.

The T5 II True Wireless ANC earphones combine a state-of-the art hybrid ANC with best-in-class comfort. The earbuds include 6 pairs of patented contour ear tips that are designed to accurately sit inside the ear canal. These soft oval silicon tips reduce ear fatigue, provide improved comfort and an excellent seal for noise isolation and superior bass. Inside each earbud is a unique 5.8mm dynamic driver design that uses a cellulose composite diaphragm with minimal thickness, drawing from the company's experience in speakers.

Engineered from the ground up to deliver the best possible performance from the smallest package, this dynamic driver is an improvement over the first generation T5's, which Klipsch says resulted in higher output, a more neutral sound and deep bass extension. This driver was further optimized by the integrated Dirac "HD Sound" (a Klipsch designation). This state-of-the-art digital audio performance enhancement technology, enhances the T5’s sound signature by correcting impulse and magnitude frequency response. "This technology drastically improves music staging, clarity, voice intelligibility, and bass fidelity while still allowing for custom sound equalizers to personalize your earphones," Klipsch adds.

This also enables the best possible platform for the two-mic hybrid, feedforward and feedback ANC for maximum noise cancellation (-22dB). For now, Klipsch says there will be obviously a transparency mode without detailing further about different adjustments or enhancing, which the platform will certainly allow. Especially, because the T5 II design uses six beamforming microphones, which integrated with noise suppression will automatically enhance voice clarity and actively reduce environmental noise to ensure clear calls. The potential combination of the microphone arrays with the ANC signal processing is certain to offer more advanced features.

No further details are provided at this stage, but this will be undoubtedly one of the areas that Klipsch can expand upon when launching the product. The Bragi OS will certainly allow further interesting intelligent enhancement possibilities and algorithms, and the slide on the promotional video (below) gives out a few of them, specifically mentioning voice guides and situation awareness.

We learned that the T5 II True Wireless ANC provides 7 hours of battery life on a single charge (5 hours with ANC) and up to 21 additional hours with the charging case (15 hours with ANC). The high-polish (lighter style) chrome battery case not only charges the earphones but protects them when not in use. It charges wirelessly using any Qi-compatible charging pad or using the included USB-C cable, and supports very fast charging.

We just know for now that the IPX4-rated design uses a Bluetooth 5 platform that supports A2DP 1.3, AVRCP 1.6, HSP 1.2, HFP 1.7A2DP profiles, with SBC, AAC and aptX HD codecs, while offering a wireless range up to 10m (33ft) with a built-in signal-boost antenna.

The Klipsch T5 II True Wireless ANC earbuds will be available later in 2021, in Gunmetal, Silver and Copper finishes, and will be also available as a McLaren Edition with McLaren's signature papaya color, real carbon fiber, and a co-molded F1 tire tread pattern. The McLaren edition (pictured below) will also feature an exclusive Qi Wireless charging pad using the same design.
