Cambridge Audio Launches Melomania M100 True Wireless ANC Earbuds with aptX Lossless

March 27 2024, 15:00
Expanding on its successful efforts to create, well-designed products in a crowded space, Cambridge Audio launched the latest Melomania M100 true wireless earbuds bringing the range up to date by introducing aptX Lossless support, alongside premium 10mm drivers, and a mammoth 10-hour battery life with Active Noise Cancelling. Designed for music lovers like all products from the brand, the Melomania M100 earbuds are also ready for any work task, and add Bluetooth LE Audio support.
Cambridge Audio has been crafting innovative, beautifully-engineered British audio products for over 50 years, and its London-based design team has produced a wining series of Melomania true wireless earbuds, starting in 2019 with the Melomania 1, followed immediately in 2020 by the stunning Melomania Touch, which the company continued to update.

It was due time for Cambridge Audio to create a new updated option for the range, including the first Melomania earbuds with  ANC. The Melomania M100 also expand on the company's expertise with the latest Melomania 1+ compact earbuds, which combined meticulously tuned premium drivers and hi-fi-grade amplification. Music reproduction was always a focus for the company, and the company made sure the new Melomania M100 would improve on the experience, while expanding battery life to a world-class 10-hours (up to 16 hours with noise-cancelling turned off) - ready for a flight or a hard-working day and night.

To improve on the sound, Cambridge specified a custom, meticulously tuned 10mm driver to match the class-leading amplification circuit, building on the possibilities allowed by Qualcomm's Snapdragon Sound platform and aptX Lossless wireless technology, which enables wireless playback in standard CD quality. Built on the Qualcomm S5 SoC, the hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) effectively blocks out exterior noise that would otherwise upset the immersive listening experience. And cutting-edge Qualcomm Adaptive ANC tech means that the noise-cancelling experience is also optimized regardless of how precisely the earbuds are fitted in the ears.

For maximum comfort and fit over extended listening sessions, the M100 earbuds are also a completely new well-balanced and light design. According to Cambridge, the new earbud shape was defined using data from thousands of pairs of ears, complemented with three sizes of silicone tips and two sizes of memory foam tips to ensure that users will find the right combination of long-lasting comfort and a noise-isolating seal.

Taking on board feedback from the previous Melomania models, Cambridge's engineers have enhanced the user experience for the new M100, which uses an updated Bluetooth 5.3 radio with support for both Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair, allowing users to quickly connect their earbuds to an Android phone/tablet or Windows PC as fast and seamlessly as they always did with Apple devices.

Thanks to the choice of codecs (AAC and aptX Adaptive up to 24-bit/96kHz) in the updated Bluetooth platform, the M100s support near-perfect screen/sound sync while playing the latest games, with latency reduced to just 80ms when watching video. Bluetooth LE Audio also has the future-proofing potential to offer further benefits over time, such as support for Auracast Broadcast Audio and the high-quality, battery-saving LC3 audio codec.

"Cambridge Audio is unlike any other audio company – we’re not just acoustic engineers, but bona fide music lovers. By adopting cutting-edge tech like aptX Lossless, Melomania M100 were crafted to be our best true wireless earphones so far, to take on all comers and show what real audio expertise can deliver," asserts James Johnson-Flint, owner of Cambridge Audio.

"The new Melomania development also gave us an opportunity to focus on using sustainable materials wherever possible. We’ve introduced recycled neodymium for the driver magnets, and 50% recycled plastic. The M100s are also shipped in plastic-free packaging. This drive to create a more sustainable product builds on Cambridge's support as Founding Donor of the eco-music charity EarthPercent, which was co-founded by the iconic Brian Eno," Johnson-Flint adds.

The M100 design is complemented with a new charging case that holds more than two full charges, supports Qi wireless charging, and fast charging via USB-C. This means that just 10 minutes of charge time offers another 2 hours of ANC-enabled playback. A physical button on the charging case can also put the earbuds into Bluetooth pairing mode with a single press, avoiding any other complicated and non-intuitive setup procedures.

The other key extension of the experience is provided by the all-new Melomania Connect control app, where a seven-band EQ can be used to tweak the sound manually to a precise degree, and six available presets are tailored to multiple music genres. The touch controls have also been refined to be more responsive and intuitive, and can be individually customized from the app. There’s also an Easter Egg awaiting users when they select among one of the 8 available languages for voice prompts...

The new Cambridge Audio Melomania M100 true wireless earbuds are now available online, priced at USD $219 or EUR €199. Those living in the UK can grab a pair for just £169 in the local currency.
