BASSBOSS Unveils PredictBASS Room Modeling Software Tool for Bass Optimization

June 13 2025, 00:25

BASSBOSS, the American high-power loudspeaker company, designs all its professional systems with integrated amplification and DSP to maximize performance. To ensure those systems are properly configured, BASSBOSS now announced PredictBASS, a free room modeling software tool designed for venue owners, sound engineers, and DJs to explore how bass frequencies behave in a virtual 3D space — helping them better understand low-frequency behavior and apply that knowledge to subwoofer placement in their own venues.

BASSBOSS has been on the market for over 25 years. The company, based in Austin, Texas, was previously called BASSMAXX and formally changed the name to BASSBOSS in 2014. Under the guidance of lead designer David Lee, the brand originally focused specifically on subwoofers and loudspeakers that addressed the extreme demands of electronic and dance music reproduction. Today, BASSBOSS loudspeakers serve a wider range of applications but remain complete, fully integrated systems including processing, amplification, drivers, and cabinets, to maximize performance.

The new PredictBASS software from BASSBOSS aims to demystify the complexities of bass, offering users a way to make informed decisions grounded in the physics of sound. PredictBASS was developed by David Lee in collaboration with Paul Mayer, a DSP specialist with a background in both academic and professional audio software development. Mayer applied his expertise to create a raytracing-based audio engine that simulates how low-frequency sound interacts with surfaces like floors, walls, and ceilings. The result is a fast, intuitive tool that makes invisible acoustic phenomena — such as phase cancellation, standing waves, and null points — easy to visualize and understand.

Available for both Mac and Windows, the free software focuses on low frequencies, making it useful for enhancing bass performance in live environments. While designed with BASSBOSS systems in mind, the insights it provides are universal. By illustrating key acoustic principles, PredictBASS helps users identify and avoid phase cancellation issues — resulting in fuller, more consistent low-end response.
