Back in May, Trinnov opened their brand new North American HQ in East Hampton, CT, with an event where it promoted the new cylindrical version of WaveForming in its brand new demonstration facilities. The result of an intense effort and more than seven years of research in cooperation with industry partners, this room optimization technology allows audio professionals and enthusiasts to achieve unprecedented bass performance and consistency across the listening space. Now, WaveForming will be a default feature of all future Altitude products and can be enabled on existing Altitude processors via a free software upgrade.
With each public demonstration, WaveForming has been praised for the results, while at the same time the company was pushed to take the concept further and push the limits of what was possible. Recently, Trinnov has validated and refined WaveForming parameters using feedback from an 18-month Early Access Program. Now, this technology is available to all Altitude owners for the first time.
"Our experience with WaveForming has been nothing short of transformative, enhancing the precision and clarity of our audio systems," says Gerard Brouwer, technical consultant for Procella Audio and WaveForming Early Access Program participant. "This innovation allows us to deliver an even more immersive and true-to-life audio experience to our customers, reinforcing our position as leaders in the quality audio industry."
WaveForming has evolved to encompass a variety of subwoofer layouts, including conventional layouts with as few as four subwoofers. This design flexibility makes WaveForming feasible for a wide range of spaces and budgets.
"Far more spaces are compatible with WaveForming than many people imagine," says Arnaud Laborie, CEO of Trinnov Audio (pictured below). "If you have at least four subwoofers, WaveForming will improve your audio experience. Trinnov is eager to see this technology applied in private spaces of all types and sizes."
In support of the software's public release, Trinnov has also created free design tools to support WaveForming room optimization implementation. WaveForming Subwoofer Placement Guidelines provide in-depth design instructions to validate equipment positioning or verify whether an existing system is compatible with WaveForming. The WaveForming Design Tool, a web-based software is available to assist in subwoofer placement for new installations. Trinnov also promoted the "WaveForming Guidelines Explained" series of on-demand webinars, which can be accessed with other resources on the comprehensive WaveForming Resources Page.
WaveForming employs immersive audio system design best practices and a proprietary algorithm to produce accurate low-frequency sound across the entire listening area, even in rooms with challenging acoustics. Using a unique active acoustics approach that eliminates room modes rather than attempting to minimize their effects, WaveForming achieves unprecedented bass uniformity, impact, clarity and detail.
Trinnov dealers are encouraged to download the latest Altitude software update to begin implementing WaveForming now. Current Altitude owners with compatible audio systems should contact their dealer to enable WaveForming on their existing system and schedule calibration services.
CEDIA Expo attendees will be able to experience WaveForming room optimization in person at a live demonstration in the Trinnov Booth, #2938. Arnaud Laborie will also offer an in-depth exploration of the acoustic principles behind WaveForming in the seminar "Room Mode Elimination and Low Frequency Extension with Active Acoustics," taking place on September 4 as part of the CEDIA Expo Conference (registration required).
