Volt Introduces 10" Radial Triple Suspension Midbass Driver

British OEM speaker manufacturer Volt Loudspeakers launched the new RV2501 Radial Midbass driver, its first 10" Radial model, designed to deliver into applications that need consistent performance with its larger counterparts. With 91dB/W/m sensitivity, a frequency response between 30Hz to 800Hz at 8 Ohms - which enables its use well into the midbass range - and rated for 250 watts AES power, the new RV2501 not only expands the Volt range for monitoring solutions in smaller studios, it could also find its way into home hi-fi designs.

The driver for this month’s Test Bench explication comes from the UK. Volt sent the 12” RV3143 Studio Monitor woofer, which is probably the most uniquely designed woofer to come across my desk in a while — there is no frame on the back side of the driver! The Volt Radial Technology consists of a front-mounted eight-spoke proprietary cast aluminum frame that is mechanically coupled to both the back plate and to the top of the pole structure/phase plug, in contrast to a normal rear frame that is only coupled to the motor front plate. This month I tested one of Volt Loudspeakers' signature products, the 3” VM752 midrange dome. The VM752’s features include a coated single-piece fabric dome/surround, a FEA-designed ferrite motor structure, and a 75 mm diameter Nomex/Kapton voice coil former wound with round copper wire. A short flare horn is built into the rear-mounted (0.75” depth) faceplate. The VM752 also offers 94 dB sensitivity, and 100 W (AES) rated power handling, has a 200 mm diameter ferrite magnet, with a 2 mm Xmax, and a 500-Hz-to-4-kHz operating range.
