Sonos Introduces Sonos Move Battery-Powered Speaker, Sonos One SL and Sonos Port Interface

Sonos took its first step out of the home with, a durable, battery-powered smart speaker aptly named Sonos Move. A great design to extend the Sonos whole-home network to an area without power, or have music by the pool. The other new speaker from Sonos is the affordable One SL, with no voice recognition support, but better audio quality than the Play:1 that replaces. The third new product from Sonos is the Port, an updated wired to wireless interface solution now with better audio quality and AirPlay 2 support.

Altice USA Introduces Amplify Smart Speaker Developed with Devialet

Altice USA, the American arm of the French telecommunications conglomerate, unveiled Altice Amplify, an Alexa-powered smart speaker developed in collaboration with French connected-speaker pioneers Devialet. Directly targeted at the booming North-America smart speaker market, the Altice Amplify introduces "an intelligent, high-fidelity home speaker that powers the connected home." Of course, Altice didn't discard the audio quality argument and worked with Devialet to design a true high-fidelity system.

China Smart Speaker Sales Surge Puts Baidu, Alibaba, Xiaomi In Reach of Amazon and Google

Sales of Chinese language smart speakers in the first quarter of 2019 grew by more than 500% year-on-year, according to the latest research from Strategy Analytics. This lifted global Q1 sales to 25.9 million, a 168% increase on the same period in 2018. The global market shares of Chinese brands therefore rose much closer to Amazon and Google, although the US giants remained in first and second place respectively. Strategy Analytics has now increased its forecast for full-year 2019 global shipments by 10% to 147.7 million units.
