With Amazon now behaving like a powerful consumer electronics organization with the capabilities and resources to disrupt the markets it wants to enter at any time, the company announced a completely new range of Alexa-enabled Echo devices designed to make it even easier to add Alexa to more places in everyone's home, including hi-fi integration. And now, Amazon also wants us to bring Alexa on the road with Echo Auto, proposing a top-of-dash device. The new Echo designs and products also improve the sound quality significantly.

At Prolight+Sound 2018 (April 10-13), Celestion announced two new additions to its CF range of high-quality cast-aluminum, ferrite-magnet drivers for demanding tour sound and fixed install applications. At the Frankfurt show Celestion introduced the 12-inch CF1230F and the 15-inch CF1540HD low frequency woofers, offering further options for manufacturers designing two or three way systems and extended bass response sound reinforcement solutions.

B&C Expands 4” Woofer Family with New 4NDS34 Driver

B&C Speakers added the 4NDS34 neodymium subwoofer to their 4" family of professional transducers. The 4NDS34 features a 34mm copper voice coil, 84 gram neodymium slug magnet, 200w continuous power rating, and high sensitivity (89 dB) from 80-2000Hz. The 4NDS34 subwoofer compliments the other B&C 4" family members, including the 4NDF34 neodymium woofer, and the 4CXN36 high performance coax which combines a 36mm diaphragm compression driver and wide bandwidth woofer.

Lavoce Italiana continues to unveil the new drivers that it will be launching at Prolight+Sound 2018 (Frankfurt, April 10-13). The transducer company will be showing the new MAN062.00 high-power 6.5” neodymium midrange; a new 12" model, the WAF123.02 with a ferrite magnet purposely designed for mid-band applications; and the new and powerful 21” subwoofer, the SAF214.50, able to offer super high excursion using a 4.5” CCAW sandwiched voice coil and a ferrite motor.

In this Test Bench, I examined the 28W/4878T00, a new 10” (28 cm) subwoofer from high-end OEM Danish driver manufacturer Scan- Speak. Scan-Speak’s 28W/4878T00 has a well-chosen feature set that includes a proprietary cast seven-spoke cast-aluminum frame that has minimal reflection surfaces and is completely open below the spider mounting shelf. Martin Audio has announced a new subwoofer to its line up with the introduction of SXH218 - a hybrid passive subwoofer with two extremely high-powered 4.5" coil, 18" drivers. The subwoofer will be a central part of the company's upcoming UK Open Day demos in March at its British headquarters in High Wycombe. The company also announced the availability of GLL loudspeaker measurement data compatible with EASE Focus 3 for many of its point source loudspeakers.
