Diodes Incorporated announced the PI3A6386 USB Type-C multimedia port switch, designed to enable manufacturers to continue supporting legacy data and analog peripherals through USB Type-C ports. As a result of the adoption of USB Type-C ports in mobile phones and tablets, manufacturers are removing other ports such as USB 2.0 and 3.5mm audio sockets. The PI3A6386 port switch enables legacy data and audio signals to be passed through the USB Type-C port, allowing consumers to continue using existing peripherals.

Murata has collaborated with Cypress Semiconductor to develop the Type 1LV (CYW43012) solution that the company states is the lowest power, small form factor Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module currently available. This product improves battery life in wearables, smart home products, and portable audio applications. When comparing Type 1LV (CYW43012) to the previous Type 1DX (CYW4343W) solution, power usage is approximately 54 percent lower in DTIM 1, 60 percent in DTIM 3, up to 50 percent for 2.4 GHz RX, and 28 percent for 2.4 GHz TX.

Dirac Research announced that its Dirac Power Sound solution is embedded in the all-new, aesthetically designed MEIZU Gravity portable speaker that began shipping this week. Originally announced in 2016 and promoted with a crowdfunding Indiegogo campaign, the Chinese company was not able to manufacture the ambitious product with its bold “floating” display concept as advertised.
