A major highlight of Panasonic's press conference at IFA 2018 was the new Technics OTTAVA S SC-C50 compact wireless speaker, a new premium design, with state-of-the-art connectivity and a powerful, refined sound, free from restrictive sweet spots. Apparently the OTTAVA was already unveiled earlier at the High-End Audio Show in Munich this year, but that only shows why IFA is an important trade show for some brands and categories of products. Harman Kardon launched their Citation range of multiroom and multi-channel speakers at IFA 2018, in Berlin. All products are voice activated, featuring a Google Assistant integration and Chromecast built-in developed with StreamSDK software from StreamUnlimited. The collaboration with the Austrian wireless audio development platform specialists allowed Harman to show nine different smart products at the European consumer electronics show in a short period of time.

AirPlay 2 is now available on Sonos. This means the sounds from any app – music, podcasts, radio, video, audiobooks, and more – on any iOS devices can be streamed directly to Sonos with multiroom and Siri support. Following the earlier announcement that Sonos would be updating some of its most recent systems to support Apple's new AirPlay 2 technology, Sonos now confirmed that its users can start using AirPlay 2 with a free software update.

Sonos Announces Sonos Beam Smart Soundbar for TV and Music

During a special event in San Francisco Sonos unveiled Sonos Beam, a new compact smart soundbar with support for 80+ music services, as well as support for Amazon Alexa at launch (with multiple voice assistants to come over time). With Beam, Sonos combined three products into one – a smart speaker, a powerful soundbar, and a music and streaming center for the living room. Beam connects to the Sonos home sound system in multi-room set-ups. The Sonos Beam should be available from July 17 at $399 US, already supporting Apple AirPlay 2.

Apple Launches iOS 11.4 with AirPlay 2 to Enable HomePod Stereo Pairs and Multi-Room Audio

Apple has confirmed that its latest mobile operating system iOS 11.4 is now available introducing the much anticipated AirPlay 2 updated technology, which enables Apple's own smart speaker to be configured as stereo pairs and to work in multi-room mode. AirPlay 2 will be also supported by several other audio manufacturers. Apple also confirmed that HomePod will be available in Canada, France and Germany, starting June 18.
