Infineon's Digital MEMS Technology Enables Zylia ZM-1 Microphone Array

Marketed as the world's first portable recording studio able to capture a live performance directly into multiple separate tracks, the Zylia ZM-1 Microphone Array is actually found multiple possible applications including for spatial recording in virtual and augmented reality productions, showing great potential for R&D activities also in noise measurement and even voice capture in meeting rooms. Now the Poland-based developer revealed that its powerful microphone array is powered by MEMS technology from Infineon Technologies.

Infineon Technologies, and Aaware, Inc., an emerging supplier of sound capture technology for far-field, voice-enabled digital products, announced the formation of a partnership to launch a next-generation voice development platform to be released later this summer. Aaware’s Acoustically Aware technology is highly synergistic with Infineon’s digital MEMS microphone technology, combining to bring the best sound capture for extremely noisy environments in commercial and industrial applications.

Voice UI chipset specialist DSP Group, and Harman International, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, announced their cooperation implementing voice input technology, based on DSP Group’s SmartVoice Audio/voice SoC and HDClear far-field multi-mic algorithms. The cooperation will enable expanding Harman's Sonique Total Voice Solution platform into a new generation of voice-enabled products.

Knowles continues to expand its audio input technology product portfolio, as voice increasingly becomes the primary user interface for Internet of Things (IoT) devices and hearable applications. The company announced its new SPM0687LR5H-1 analog MEMS microphone with 70 dB Signal-to-Noise (SNR), for far-field connected audio solutions, such as voice recognition, and active noise cancelling (ANC) headphone applications.

Directly from Poland, comes the world’s first spherical microphone which records and separates each instrument and vocals into a separate track. ZYLIA is an innovative and patented recording sound-source separation technology, a complete Portable Recording Studio for multi-track in one integrated solution. It isolates every instrument playing around it and records the results via dedicated software and cloud processing. After some time in the works, ZYLIA is finally available for pre-order.

The second Audio Engineering Society (AES) International Conference on Sound Field Control, will be held at the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK, an important center for research and teaching in audio, video, and communications engineering. This conference will gather researchers, engineers and users to explore and discuss arrays, algorithms, abstractions and applications for sound field control, an area with increasingly exciting application areas.
