Dirac Introduces Spatial Audio Solution for Direct Chipset Integration Into Next-Generation Wireless Headphones

Swedish digital audio pioneer Dirac announced that its latest spatial audio solution, which leverages the company's patented Dynamic HRTF technology, is now available for direct integration into the digital signal processors (DSP) of Bluetooth wireless headphones. The solution is now compatible with chipsets from Qualcomm, BES, and MediaTek and allows headphone manufacturers to deliver spatial audio to consumers, independent of playback devices or media players.

JVC announced a personal wireless home theater system that delivers a full, multichannel soundfield when using headphones. The JVC XP-EXT1 uses JVC's proprietary EXOFIELD out-of-head localization sound field processing technology to allow headphone users to experience the full effect of multichannel sound sources, including immersive 7.1.4 channel sound, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. What's more, the soundfield is optimized for each listener and listening environment to ensure the most realistic and immersive experience possible.

When Amazon recently announced its latest Echo Studio smart speaker, focusing on audio quality and promising an "immersive" and "3D Audio" experience, the partnership with Dolby Laboratories was highlighted. The same day, Dolby confirmed that its Dolby Atmos Music format will be supported directly on the Echo Studio with content in the new object-based format being streamed through Amazon Music HD. Dolby states, "listening to music in Dolby Atmos on Echo Studio will unleash every detail as it was meant to be heard, completely immersing fans in a whole new way."

Creative Technology announced the worldwide launch of the Super X-Fi headphone holography technology at CES 2019, hailed as "an industry game-changer that will change the way one listens to headphones forever." According to Creative, Super X-Fi recreates the soundstage of a multi-speaker surround system in a pair of headphones, and personalizes it by scanning the user's head and ears, so that the custom-fit audio experience becomes natural like never before. The technology was previewed in prototype at CES 2018 and will now be launched in two SXFI AIR headphone models, one wireless and one USB-powered.
