LG Electronics Partners with Meridian Audio on New Speaker Designs for CES 2018

LG Electronics (LG) and Meridian Audio have announced a partnership on the development of new consumer audio products. The first results of the partnership will be presented at CES 2018, and include a Dolby Atmos soundbar, portable speakers, and the LG ThinQ smart speaker, featuring Google Assistant voice recognition. LG wants to combine its consumer electronics expertise with Meridian’s audio technologies to deliver "high-performance audio to more people across the world."

Auro Technologies has agreed to sell its StormAudio High-End Immersive Audio Hardware Brand Division to Yves Trélohan, the company's Senior VP, with backing from Saffelberg Investments. The acquisition encompasses the StormAudio hardware brand, its intellectual properties, infrastructure and inventory, all now hosted in a dedicated new company, Immersive Audio Technologies Group. With the management buyout, StormAudio is free to work closer on technical and marketing initiatives with Dolby and DTS.

Select Denon and Marantz A/V receivers are now able to receive a firmware update to offer immersive sound in home theaters without the need for height or rear speakers. DTS Virtual:X technology in an A/V receiver offers immersive audio - virtual surround and virtual height - from simple soundbars, or traditional stereo and surround configurations (5.1/7.1 channel).
