GRAS Announces Standardization of RA0252 Coupler According to IEC Standard 60318-8:2022

GRAS Sound & Vibration announced that its line of production line tools for high-frequency measurements now includes the only 0.4cc couplers that follow the most recent IEC standards, offering a cost-efficient validation tool in the frequency range up to 16 kHz that adheres to standards. The latest IEC standard 60318-8:2022 describes an acoustic coupler for loading a hearing aid or insert earphone with a specified acoustic impedance when testing its acoustic performance, in the frequency range up to 16 kHz.

The research is intended to guide product designers, and reflects the findings of an internal effort by the balanced armature manufacturer to determine the best and most satisfying music listening experience for consumers. In the research report, Knowles proposes an evolution of the Harman response curve specific to in-ears that takes into consideration frequencies above 10kHz

Fresh From the Bench: USound Megaclite 4.0 UH-R2040 MEMS Earphones

The Megaclite 4.0 UH-R2040 is a reference design based on USound's Achelous UT-P2018 MEMS drivers, comparable in length and width to smaller balanced armatures, but thinner. They’re SMT reflow-compatible, so easy to incorporate into automatic assembly processes. Brent Butterworth listened, measured, and compared the performance of this new design against conventional in-ear products using established driver technologies.
