Brane Audio Debuts Brane X Portable Speaker with Built-in Subwoofer

Brane Audio, an audio company from Austin, Texas, is introducing a new portable speaker at CES 2023 which the company says is able to generate expanded low frequency response. The Brane X is the first speaker in its class to include a subwoofer, producing much more bass than comparable portable speakers thanks to the company's new Repel-Attract Driver (R.A.D.) that uses a novel "magnetic negative spring" supported by an axial magnetic bearing system. Brane Audio is offering private demos of its new speaker during CES.

AMEI to Fund Open Source MIDI 2.0 Driver for Windows

The Association of Musical Electronics Industries (AMEI), the organization that oversees the MIDI specification in Japan, has committed to funding the development of an open-source USB MIDI 2.0 Host Driver for Windows Operating Systems under a memorandum of understanding between AMEI, AmeNote Inc, and Microsoft. While Apple and Google already support MIDI 2.0, Microsoft has now agreed to start development of a Windows standard open-source MIDI 2.0 API.

The focus for this Test Bench is the 2FE24 2.5” full-range driver from FaitalPRO, an interesting small diameter full-range design suitable for pro audio applications such as PA line source speakers. The 2FE24 is built on a proprietary injection-molded polycarbonate four-spoke frame, and the cone assembly consists of an uncoated paper cone and dust cap, low loss half-roll NBR surround, and elevated cloth spider. Powering the cone assembly is a neodymium ring magnet and a milled return cup fitted to a 19mm diameter voice coil wound with aluminum wire on a Kapton former. The NSD1095N is a 1" throat compression driver with a compact footprint for “high quality” sound applications in professional audio, from studio monitors or stage monitors to high-power sound reinforcement cabinets. It uses a field replaceable True Piston Motion (TPM) TiN coated titanium diaphragm, extending the frequency response by 25% and incorporates a proprietary phase plug architecture that has been designed to give a smooth coherent wave front at the horn entrance across the whole working frequency range.

RME Audio, the German manufacturer of premium audio interfaces, has announced today that its interfaces are already compatible with the latest macOS Big Sur 11.0.1 which was released in November 2020. RME interfaces are now compatible with both Intel-based and the new M1 ARM-based Mac systems running the latest Apple OS. Since RME drivers are written in-house and not outsourced to third party developers, RME’s users are able to update their firmware immediately and continue working without interruption or delay.
