European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) Awards 2017-2018 in Audio Categories

The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) Awards 2017-2018 have been announced. Already listed at www.eisa.eu, the EISA Awards 2017-18 recognize performance and innovation in Consumer Electronics, including audio categories in hi-fidelity, home theater and mobile. This year the awards have a strong European flavor in the higher end home categories, with Japan and Asia in general dominating the home theater items. Exception for a US brand, JBL takes two awards in personal audio.

The new Tang Band Speaker 25-2176S 1” dome tweeter features a 25 mm wide surround coated fabric diaphragm optimized for high-frequency cutoff above 20 kHz, a unique aluminum assembly that is both self-shielding and acts as a heatsink, a unique aluminum mounting ring for screw down mounting up to 0.5” mounting depth, ferrofluid voice coil cooling and resonance damping, plus gold-plated terminals. Dayton Audio sent a pair of new shallow-mount home/car audio subwoofers, the 10” LS10-44 and the 12” LS12-44. Both subwoofers are less than 4” deep. STMicroelectronics announced its second-generation digital audio amplifiers with internal 24-bit DAC conversion, bringing increased performance in comparison to its original products introduced in 2012. The new FDA801 and FDA801B 4-channel class-D components simplify system design and lower cost for car-radio suppliers, allowing for more than 40% power savings compared to standard class-D amplifiers.

Revel Makes OEM Audio System for Ford Lincoln

Revel, the Harman high-end home-audio brand, entered into a 10-year agreement to offer Revel brand OEM audio systems installed in Ford Lincoln automobiles. This agreement is the first time the Revel brand will appear in a factory car audio sound system, as was done previously with the Harman JBL and Infinity brands.
