Revel Makes OEM Audio System for Ford Lincoln

February 9 2015, 04:00
Revel, the Harman high-end home-audio brand, entered into a 10-year agreement to offer Revel brand OEM audio systems installed in Ford Lincoln automobiles. This agreement is the first time the Revel brand will appear in a factory car audio sound system, as was done previously with the Harman JBL and Infinity brands.

Part of this contract gives luxury automaker Lincoln exclusive access to Revel’s brand for car audio. The first Lincoln to have a Revel sound system is the all-new Lincoln MKX midsize premium utility vehicle, released in January 2015. Revel systems will be designed for each Lincoln vehicle’s interior, with speaker placement, tuning, calibration, and the number of speakers unique to each Lincoln model.

MKX owners will use the MyLincoln Touch screen to choose from three listening modes—traditional stereo; audience; and On Stage, which is a surround-sound experience that places individual instruments and musical elements throughout the cabin.

The Revel Ultima, which is the new MKX audio system, also features Harman’s Clari-Fi technology to restore information lost in compressed music. Incorporating elements from Revel’s home speaker line, the Lincoln factory system will place the tweeter and midrange speakers close together in what’s called “point-source architecture” to improve the accuracy of midrange and high-frequency reproduction. Tweeters for the new system will also include custom waveguides.

The system will also use Revel’s proprietary hybrid amplifier design, which combines Class-A/B and Class-D amplification. Lincoln and Revel designers also created an acoustically transparent aluminum speaker grille that complements Lincoln interiors.
