Test Bench: Wavecor’s New WF211PA01 8.25" PA Woofer

The driver characterized in this Test Bench is a new 8.25" paper cone woofer, which is only the second pro audio design from the Wavecor, renowned for its high-end home hi-fi drivers. The company decided to expand its catalog with new OEM pro audio woofers, and the WF211PA01 is basically a smaller version of the WF259PA01 10" woofer explicated in the February 2024 issue of Voice Coil. Renowned high-end OEM manufacturer Wavecor continues to keep a focus on creativity and announced the results of its latest development efforts with three new drivers, all now in stock and ready for sampling. The new transducers comprise the WF275BD01 (4 ohm) and WF275BD02 (8 ohm) 10" mid/woofers in die cast frame, the TW022WA07/09 and TW022WA08/10 high-end tweeters, and the FR070WA05 70 mm aluminum-cone full-range driver with extended bass response.

This month’s driver on Test Bench, from high-end OEM manufacturer Wavecor is the WF152BD03/04 6″ midwoofer. This is another characterization from the Voice Coil archives. This 6″ paper cone midbass woofer, like the previously reviewed Wavecor WF120, highlights Wavecor Balanced Drive system design, a proprietary distortion reducing motor technology, which results in a more symmetrical Bl curve. This Test Bench focuses on a new Wavecor 6.5” subwoofer, the SW168WA01. This subwoofer has a generous feature set that includes a proprietary four-spoke stamped steel frame that is substantially open below the spider mounting shelf due to the eight 15×8 mm rectangular vents, and as part of Wavecor’s Balanced Drive motor format, the SW168WA01 further incorporates an aluminum shorting ring. In this edition of Test Bench - already from Voice Coil’s archives, originally published in September 2010 - Vance Dickason measures the WF120BD04 midbass woofer from Wavecor, part of a complete range of 4¾” transducers, including the WF120BD03 (4 ohm version), which he found to be well-crafted drivers. Both were designed as high performance bass and midrange units for very compact monitors and high-end hi-fi speakers and feature a Balanced Drive motor proprietary structure.
