TASCAM Sonicview Recording and Mixing Consoles Receive the Inter BEE 2024 Grand Prix Award

TASCAM received the Inter BEE Grand Prix award for the professional audio category, promoted by the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA). This award was presented on the occasion of the 60th Inter BEE trade show that took place November 13-15, at the Makuhari Messe convention center, just outside of Tokyo. TASCAM was recognized for the development of its Sonicview Digital Mixing Consoles range together with the IF-ST2110 SMPTE ST 2110 networking expansion card.

Sound Semiconductor New Mixer Chip Provides Voltage Control of Six Inputs into a Single Output

Sound Semiconductor announced the ProCircuit 6-into-1 Voltage Controlled Mixer. Based on a new-generation Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA), the patent pending SSI2190 allows current-mode linear control of each channel. Differential voltage inputs provide design flexibility, and a high-compliance current output makes summing from multiple sources - including other SSI2190’s - an easy endeavor.

Series Versus Shunt Regulators – A Mixed Bag

Series voltage regulators are a great way to provide almost-noise free and rock-stable DC to your audio circuits. But the load current often has distorted signal components that can generate a ‘dirty ground’ across the supply ground wires and tracks. This can introduce distortion components in other circuit sections using this ground. With shunt regulators we can keep the dirty ground localized and largely avoid the problem. Input-Output Impedance Matching – Or Not

In analog audio, you often must connect a source to a “receiver” unit. Pre-amp to power amp, phono preamp to an active crossover, the crossover to the power amp, that sort of stuff. Each of these units has an input impedance and an output impedance spec. I often get questions like: “My power amp has 20kΩ input impedance, my preamp has 100Ω output impedance, and maximum load is specified as 10kΩ. Will that work together or will I break something?”. Scott Wurcer from Cambridge Mass passed away on March 18, at the age of 74. Scott was one of those people who made a technical contribution to audio that can hardly be overstated. His analog IC designs for Analog Devices are legendary for their creative design and extremely high performance. Scott loved a good life, and I shared many exquisite meals and great wines with him. I will miss him.
