Peak Amplification Unveils Next-Generation GaN Class-D Amplifier

Peak Amplification, a division of Elytone, announced the launch of its first GaN–based amplifier module co-developed with Infineon at CEDIA Expo 2025 in Denver (Booth 739). The first in a new generation of products that Peak believes will outperform traditional silicon-based Class-D amplifiers, the new amplifier module leverages the latest CoolGaN and MERUS devices from Infineon and already offers higher performance audio, higher power density, and significantly cooler and more efficient operation.

Ray Tubes Launches Select 5U4 Rectifier Tubes

Ray Tubes added another tube model to its Ray Tubes Select Collection. The Oakland-based vacuum tube company expanded its line-up with new-production 5U4 rectifier tubes in its Select Collection Rectifiers. Although the 5U4 aren't always top-of-mind, they’re a crucial component of tube amps for high-end audio, besides being an essential component in guitar amplifiers, prized for its ability to handle high peak currents. Select 5U4 vacuum tubes are now available from Ray Tubes' global network of retail partners.

With the strategic sale of Blaze Audio to Sonance, headquartered in San Clemente, California, effective July 1st, 2025, Pascal hopes to rebuild the company’s reputation that once made it one of the most successful professional audio amplifier companies.

Analog Devices Launches MAX98425A and MAX98415A 22V Digital Input Stereo High Efficiency Class-D Amplifiers

Analog Devices announced two new medium power stereo Class-D amplifier devices intended to deliver maximum efficiency for battery-powered designs, with ultra-low idle current, and still providing the lowest possible distortion at its loudest levels. The MAX98425A is a low noise, Class-D amplifier with digital PCM inputs and filterless operation. The MAX98415A is a smart amplifier with IV feedback routed through the PCM interface data output and featuring a rich set of protection algorithms.

Many new op-amp types have appeared in the last decade, and Douglas Self thought it was time to evaluate those for distortion performance. In Part 1 of his article, he measured BJT-input devices using a similar protocol for five different loads and testing for basic op-amp distortion in favorable circumstances. In this second article, the measurement of BJT types is concluded, and he moves the JFET types to the test bench.
