Test Bench: Dayton Audio LS10-44 and LS12-44 Shallow-Mount Subwoofers

Dayton Audio sent a pair of new shallow-mount home/car audio subwoofers, the 10” LS10-44 and the 12” LS12-44. Both subwoofers are less than 4” deep. Since these are 10” and 12” versions of the same concept, Vance Dickason decided to analyze the Dayton Audio LS10/12 together rather than separately. Heyser Memorial Lecture on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at the Palais des Congrès in Paris, France. The lecture, titled “The Immersive Audio Revolution: From Labs to Mass-Market” will offer insight to recent developments and technologies in sonic immersion and spatialization.

The OCA Alliance has successfully promoted the new Open Control Architecture (OCA) AES70 standard at the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2016 show in Amsterdam. The association promoted a display of the latest developments and introduced the OCA MicroDemo development platform to other manufacturers and system integrators. PC-based Control Specialist Beckhoff also announced OCA (AES70) integration at ISE 2016.

Winners in 31st technical and creative achievement categories were announced at the 31st Annual NAMM TEC Awards. The award ceremony was held on Saturday, January 23 during the NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA. As always, the important thing is to be nominated, since the TEC Award categories combine products which are very hard to compare and, most of the time, the winners reflect the popularity of the brand.

OCA Alliance confirmed that Open Control Architecture (OCA) – an open control and monitoring standard for professional audio and AV media network devices – has been officially standardized on 4 January 2016 by the Audio Engineering Society Standards Committee (AESSC) in the newly published AES70-2015 standard for audio applications of networks - Open Control Architecture.

The transducer under review this month is from the Italian pro sound company, Eighteen Sound. Designated a subwoofer, the 18TLW3000 is a high power handling woofer rated at 1,800 WRMS with substantial features, including what Eighteen Sound calls a “Tetracoil” dual winding and interleaved sandwich voice coil (ISV).
