Test Bench: Wavecor’s TW045WA01 Coaxial Cloth Dome/Ceramic Cone Tweeter

This Test Bench characterizes the innovative TW045WA01 dual-diaphragm coaxial tweeter from Wavecor. This driver's dual-diaphragm assembly combines a 22mm coated textile dome for high-frequency extension and a 45mm ceramic/aluminum cone, which adds low-frequency output and efficiency. The hybrid design incorporates a dual neodymium magnet motor structure and sculpted foam damping ring attached to the faceplate. A very unique driver that is certain to appear in new two-channel high-end audio loudspeakers.

This article offers a detailed characterization of Wavecor's latest SW259WA01 High Xmax Subwoofer. This new 10.25” subwoofer has a generous feature set that includes a proprietary six-spoke cast-aluminum frame that is substantial enough to support the heavy ferrite motor assembly and incorporates 36 vents below the spider mounting shelf. Other features include a very stiff and thick flat profile aluminum cone, an ingenious motor system with enhanced cooling, and a 2" four-layer voice coil wound. This article characterizes the FR4X6WA01, another very interesting full-range driver from Wavecor. The small oval diaphragm driver is built on a proprietary injection molded polymer four-spoke frame with the cone assembly consisting of a black anodized aluminum cone, with a round black anodized aluminum dust cap. Powering the cone assembly is a dual neodymium motor with a copper cap shorting ring and a milled return cup with black emissive coating.

The driver in this Test Bench is the Wavecor TW022WA09 22mm high-end textile dome tweeter. The TW022WA09 was unveiled by Wavecor together with the TW022WA08/10 high-end tweeter, a new series of 22mm chambered neodymium drivers with increased sensitivity. The precision cloth (textile) dome ensures an extended frequency response, while the voice coil design offers higher power handling and low resonance frequency.
