Fast, Quality Testing of Loudspeaker Suspension Parts

This article discusses an approach for time-efficient testing of loudspeaker suspension parts, close to their final operating conditions. It refers to the Linear Suspension Test set (LST Lite), a hardware and software add-on for the Klippel QC loudspeaker end-of-line testing system. Already an annual tradition, this three-day event combines both theory and practice, and will take place March 9-11, 2020, at the Technical University Dresden, in Germany. Registrations for the lecture are now open for a fee for general admission, and are free for students.

Loudspeaker engineers have few choices for professional forums. The Audio Engineering Society (AES) is an outstanding international organization although not entirely focused on speakers. ALTI (formerly ALMA) is loudspeaker-centric but does not have a strong base in China. And although you may not have heard about iSEAT, for most Chinese speaker engineers that is their preferred professional organization. The International Symposium on Electro-Acoustic Technologies (ISEAT), founded in 2007, is held every two years and has successfully conducted six sessions.

Klippel's software dB-Lab version 210, the unified framework for R&D and QC audio testing, diagnostics and simulation, has received a free maintenance update. The update includes bug fixes and minor feature updates for released modules and beta test products like the Live Audio Analyzer (LAA). dB-Lab is a project-oriented Windows application that also features all sorts of templates for common test setups.

The annual ALMA International Symposium & Expo (AISE) 2019, took place June 9–10 at the DoubleTree by Hilton at Universal Orlando, just prior to InfoComm 2019. Once again, it was the strongest event ever for anyone in the loudspeaker and electroacoustic development in general. This was the first event since the association decided to move away from Las Vegas and CES, and leverage the opportunities of working closer with the Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association (AVIXA) and its annual trade show, InfoComm.
