Wearables, Wireless Audio, Connected Devices Experience Largest Ownership Growth in 2016

According to a new study from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), wearables, wireless speakers, wireless headphones, connected devices are seeing the largest ownership growth in 2016. “Wireless, portable, connected devices are driving tech adoption,” says Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association. The CTA study also shows smartphone ownership now beginning to mirror television trends.

InfoComm International announced the publication of a new audiovisual standard, Cable Labeling for Audiovisual Systems (CLAS). The new standard defines requirements for labeling cables used in installed AV systems and provides guidance for the easy identification of all power and signal paths in a completed system. Proper cable labeling aids in the operation, support, maintenance and troubleshooting of AV systems.

Sennheiser has been named a CES 2016 Innovation Awards Honoree for its state-of-the-art Orpheus headphones. The electrostatic headphone system has been honored in both the ‘Headphones’ Category and the ‘High Performance Home Audio-Video’ Category. Sennheiser’s Orpheus, which will be hand-crafted in Germany and available from mid-2016, impressed the jury with its combination of innovative technology with carefully selected materials and highest-quality craftsmanship.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), in cooperation with The Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) and The Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing announced they would be adopting a new logo to promote the adoption of high-resolution music. This is different from the original High-Resolution Audio logo… Is there any logic in this?

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), formerly the Consumer Electronics Association, inducted eight industry leaders into its 16th annual CE Hall of Fame. CTA created the Hall of Fame in 2000 to honor industry visionaries. Harman’s Dr. Floyd Toole, pioneering psychoacoustic engineer and Noel Lee, Monster’s founder, president & CEO, were among the honorees.

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA - former CEA) announced its Best of Innovation Awards Honorees for CES 2016. Among the winners in 27 product categories is Harman, with the JBL Reflect Aware in-ears, Klipsch with its Reference Premiere Dolby Atmos Speaker System, and Sengled Voice, the first integrated microphone and speaker LED bulb on the market.

CTA announced the name and introduced its new logo at CES Unveiled New York, a half-day event offering a sneak peek at the year’s most innovative products and technologies two months before CES 2016.
