Riedel Joins RAVENNA and Accelerates Efforts to Provide AES67 Interoperability

Riedel Communications announced its support for the AES67 standard and the RAVENNA technology framework for real-time IP distribution of audio and other media content. By extending format support to include AES67/RAVENNA, the German company takes a key step forward in delivering the many benefits of standards-agnostic communications and signal-transport solutions.

Promoted in association with Resolution Audio Production Magazine, the Audio Networking Forum brings together technology experts, operators and industry professionals involved in audio networking for broadcast, post, live and music production. Happening December 12th 2014, in London, UK, the Forum will serve as an essential crash-course in the capabilities of audio networking today.

At the end of October, the AES hosted its first AES67 interoperability “PlugFest” at the IRT in Munich. 15 people from 10 different companies gathered for 4 days, testing 15 different AES67 implementations for basic interoperability. The result was very promising, as all the implementations were able to interoperate with each other.

RAVENNA is a phase-accurate synchronized solution for realtime distribution of audio and other media content in IP-based network environments, using standardized network protocols and technologies. The first part of this article explains how RAVENNA is promoted and implemented. The second article digs deeper into the technology and details examples of companies that decided to adopt this AES67-compatible, Layer-3 IP protocol.
