WiSA E enables TV, soundbar, and set-top box manufacturers to transmit high-quality 24-bit/48kHz, multichannel audio, wirelessly, creating an ecosystem of interoperable products using standard 5GHz and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi at an affordable price.
The WiSA E software embedded on an Amlogic SoC is tailored for Android-based hybrid OTT/IP set-top box and high-end media box applications, enabling immersive multichannel audio, and marking a significant departure from costly separate components while expanding accessibility for wireless audio connectivity to the mass market.
The Amlogic S905X4 represents a significant milestone in audio system-on-a-chip solutions, as it enables simultaneous video and audio decoding while seamlessly supporting external applications running in the background. This advancement, combined with perfect synchronization of video and audio, provides consumers with a flexible and highly integrated audio experience.
Systems that embed WiSA E software are also able to take advantage of WiSA Connect, a pivotal part of the product solution. WiSA Connect offers a common API interface with low overhead to any SoC, enabling flexibility in scaling and forming an integral part of delivering an interoperable ecosystem for TVs, Set-Top Boxes, Mobile devices, and WiSA E-enabled speakers.
WiSA Connect is a WiSA E server that manages the network on the local SoC/OS over standard Wi-Fi, significantly reducing integration costs. WiSA E operates in the 2.4GHz or 5GHz spectrum and can easily scale with the latest Wi-Fi standards/SoCs to 6GHz and beyond, providing better robustness with more audio channels.
"The key to this revolutionary audio experience lies in WiSA E's ability to adapt, connect, and deliver exceptional sound quality in the world of wireless audio," says Tony Parker, VP of Technical Marketing and Strategy. "Imagine the versatility of listening to your TV/STB WiSA E speakers then instantly being able to change audio sources to your Android phone for a video call or YouTube video. This is the kind of versatility that consumers are demanding."
First WiSA E Software Licensee
Meanwhile, WiSA Technologies has confirmed that a global TV brand with over 10 million TV sets sold annually, will expand its a range of audio options by adding wireless immersive audio options and full interoperability with any of the WiSA E-enabled speakers offered by the many WiSA Association speaker brands.
This first 5-year license allows this company to implement WiSA E wireless immersive audio transmitter technology in any or all the member's TV platforms. For licensees, WiSA E is a complete embedded audio solution that touches the entire sound ecosystem.
"We are pleased that our first licensee of WiSA E technology is a well-known global HDTV brand," says Tony Ostrom, president of the WiSA Association. "We launched this special licensing program for WiSA Association members 60 days ago and have been thrilled at the overwhelming positive member reaction. We fully expect many other HDTV, soundbar, and projector brands to follow suit."
Development kits for WiSA E are already available, with embedded design programs for Android and Linux to support porting of WiSA E software onto all popular TV SoC solutions from Realtek, Amlogic, Mediatek, and Novatek. WiSA-certified modules are also available for cost-effective integration with interoperable WiSA E-enabled speakers.
"WiSA E was designed to give brands powerful options to cost-effectively improve their audio offering to their customers," says Ostrom. "By licensing WiSA E, brands can embed superior audio performance in their products while reducing overall BOM cost."
