Universal Audio New Apollo Twin X USB Audio Interface Expands Realtime UAD Processing on Windows Computers

Universal Audio, the Californian audio company recognized globally for its classic analog dynamic processors, and in the last two decades, for its extended range of audio recording interfaces, UAD plug-ins, and now UA modeling microphones, now released its new Apollo Twin X USB desktop audio interface. Normally the company works with hardware and software designed to work with Macs and macOS. This one looks similar to existing Apollo units, and features the same A/D and D/A conversion inherited directly from the Apollo X rackmount with 24-bit/192kHz audio I/O. In this case, adding USB 3 connectivity (USB-C connector) for Windows, instead of Thunderbolt.

The new Apollo Twin X USB audio interface is described by Universal Audio as "a potent sonic update to the world's most popular professional desktop audio interface." Available in UAD-2 DUO Core format for running UAD plug-ins in real time, this 10x6 USB 3 audio interface offers increased dynamic range and ultra-low THD, retailing for $999 US MAP, which is not the most expensive considering the value of the included processing and recording software.

Basically, the Apollo Twin X USB gives Windows-based musicians and producers an improved audio conversion with the tone, feel, and flow of analog recording, by letting users record through preamps from emulated designs from Neve, API, Manley, and more — with near-zero latency. In this case, it includes the Heritage Edition UAD plug-in bundle, featuring Teletronix LA-2A and 1176 compressor collections, 610-B Tube Preamp & EQ Collection, Pultec Passive EQ Collection, Pure Plate Reverb, and more. It also runs UAD Powered Plug-Ins via VST & AAX in all major DAWs, and works with any Windows DAW via ASIO drivers.

The difference and value for these interfaces is precisely in this bundled software, leveraging the power of UAD-2 DUO Core Processing for tracking through vintage compressors, EQs, tape machines, mic preamps, and guitar amp plug-ins with near-zero latency, regardless of audio buffer size. The company's Unison technology offers stunning models of classic tube and transformer-based preamps, guitar amps, and stompboxes.

And this desktop unit includes a built-in talkback mic for communication with studio talent and recording slate cues, improved monitor functionality including Mono, Mute, DIM, and ALT monitor controls. Connectivity includes two premium Unison mic/line preamps; 2 line outputs; front-panel Hi-Z instrument input and headphone output, plus up to 8 channels of additional digital input via optical ADAT or Optical S/PDIF.

Superior analog design and components, with premium build quality, make this Apollo Twin X USB a valuable option for studios with Windows PCs.
