Shure Introduces Plug-On USB-C Audio Interface with Onboard DSP

August 16 2023, 00:35
Shure launched the MVX2U Digital Audio Interface, a clever, easy-to-use, single-channel, XLR to USB-C solution designed to extract the best possible results from any microphone. Basically the MVX2U converts any XLR microphone to USB, which in turns allows complete access to the ShurePlus MOTIV Desktop App, where users can adjust boost gain, activate 48V phantom power for condenser microphones, and configure custom EQ, filters and dynamic processing.

The magic is in the MVX2U’s integrated software that also provides access to managing up to +60dB of clean gain, perfect for a classic Shure SM7B. And while this replaces directly the need for any "booster" or "lifter" device, it also ensures the signal never clips or distorts thanks to an Auto Level Mode that automatically adjusts the mic gain when recording or streaming. A perfect solution for podcasters, creators and musicians working without assistance.

The MVX2U already ships in Auto Level Mode, which sets gain perfectly in real time, acting as a virtual audio engineer to adjust levels on the fly and ensure a more consistent signal source. This means users can focus fully on their content and their mic technique, without having to worry with the signal being transmitted or recorded. Auto Level Mode settings, presets, and additional parameters, including "vocal tone," can all be controlled through the MOTIV Desktop App.

Thanks to the built-in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) in the MVX2U plug-on interface, users get all the advantages of a USB connection to a computer, including dynamic processors such as a limiter and compressor, directly with any of the best or the simplest available microphones, dynamic or condenser, regardless of the manufacturer. The free ShurePlus MOTIV Desktop App basically is the interface that unlocks and controls the DSP built-in. The result is a professional audio signal without latency from external processing. And there's even a headphone output on the unit, for direct monitoring of the source signal.

Users seeking a more hands-on approach to their sound can also take advantage of additional features available in Manual Mode of the MOTIV Desktop app, including EQ, limiter, and compressor presets. Shure also says that recurring firmware updates will be available for the MVX2U, meaning the interface will continue to improve in the future.

The MVX2U has a compact form factor compatible with any XLR microphone and can be plugged directly into the XLR output of the mic or at the end of an XLR cable (in-line), giving users flexibility in how they implement the interface into their setup.

"The MVX2U is the most convenient and powerful solution for users looking to convert their XLR microphones to USB at this price," shared Sean Sullivan, Associate Director of Global Product Management. "The integrated software is designed to be approachable to anyone – experienced professionals and those just starting their audio journey."

In the MVX2U Digital Audio Interface box, users will find a 1m USB-C to USB-C cable, and a printed quick-start guide to help begin using the MVX2U. The Shure MVX2U is available now on Shure.com for USD $129 or EUR €149.
